The Specialized Globe Haul ST is a purpose short tail ebikes that comes in three colors including satin black, green, or glossy white. Although it's only made in one frame size, the seat post can telescope up high because it's two parts, the stem can be raised because it's a quill design, and the BMX riser style handlebar can swivel forward or back to change reach. The stem even has markings so you can precisely reset the height as different riders use the bike! Excellent safety features including the glossy white color option that stands out in low light conditions, premium tires with puncture resistance and reflective sidewall stripes, full coverage fenders with a flexible lower portion up front, and large bright integrated lights with multiple modes for the headlight! Lots of attention to detail with this ebike including a premium brass bell, extra long grips to accommodate different riders, a clear sticker slap guard to protect the paint, motor cable that is protected by the frame and enters from the left side, a chainring guard to protect the motor controller and bottom bracket, and a USB charging port built into the right side of the LCD display panel! Excellent cargo options including an optional front tray rack rated to 20kg (44lbs) and included MIK compatible rear rack rated to 40kg (88lbs). The steel fork has bosses for adding pannier mounts, and the rear rack has pannier mounts that are positioned below the rack so you can access both. I love the two bottle cage bosses positioned perfectly on the sides of the steer tube. The battery pack can be charged on or off the frame, and Specialized provides a high quality 3 amp charger that feels very solid. The charging port is a bit low on the left side, which requires some flexibility to bend down and reach. The capacity is very good at 772 watt hours, and it is positioned low and center on the frame, protected by frame tubing. This ships as a Class 3 electric bike, capable of 28mph (45kmh) top speeds, and the torque sensor feels very responsive and natural. Specialized also sells a trigger throttle for those who might want help getting started from standstill, or navigating dynamic terrain. If the bike is fully loaded with cargo, it's nice to be able to focus on balance and use a throttle sometimes vs. having to pedal. This ebike doesn't really fold or stand on one end like some others. The seat and handlebar can be lowered, but the handlebar doesn't turn 90 degrees without using tools. The handlebar is pretty wide, which could be a factor when passing between cars in traffic or going through narrow doorways. I see this as a great cargo product, but it would also work well for commuters. The bike doesn't come with any suspension systems on the fork or seat post. You could swap the upper section of the seat post, which is 30.9mm wide, with a suspension post. You can also lower the tire pressure to as low as 15 PSI which reduces vibration but also makes the bike less efficient when rolling. I like the smooth stripe down the center of the tire, which rolls quietly and reduces friction on paved surfaces.

My wife and I have had these bikes for a little over 6 months. There isn't anything that we have had to the negative. Having the ability to fitness ride and cargo/shopping ride has been awesome. The biggest thing we have enjoyed is loading gear with the center stand and the gear being low. We struggled with bikes in the past that have a side stand. This bike won't disappoint anyone that buys one. I've owned a handful of bikes and this checks the boxes on so many levels. Good job specialized!!

There is so much value for money here. Immaculate build quality, huge power, huge battery, great utility feautures, lights, etc. I wish it had full suspension or at least a front fork and seat suspension, but it does make me wonder how other companies charge 5-15k for cargo bikes when they can offer this for 2800-3500.

Yeah, I really appreciate the care and artistry from companies like Specialized. Those lights are awesome, the fenders are sturdy and well made plus that front rubber extension is genius, the high capacity racks, double bottle cage mount on the steer tube, overkill brakes etc. very nice :D

I really wish my (premium Bosch made) bike had a set of high beams. The light is either too bright around pedestrians, or only bright enough to ride around 8 mph. Specialized seems to really be innovating while some others are phoning it in a little. Just my opinion!

The cargo bikes that are $5K+ are generally larger yet a LOT lighter, and have mid-drive systems (which has numerous advantages). But for this price range, the Globe Haul is clearly a "best value."

Hi Court.. Talking about freezing weather.. Always bring the battery inside when not in use.. And if you ride during the freeze, bring the battery and let it warm up to room temps (couple hours) before charging. Never charge a frozen battery (it can (likely will) damage the diodes of the lithium battery.. if that happens it can shorten the number of cycles and shorten the range of your ebike. Give me a call.. Robby

You’re totally right. I didn’t mean to criticize these parts, they seemed like a pretty good fit for the bike. I shared the benefits of a longer and tell her handlebar including smooth control and adjustable reach. The downside however is that they make the bike wider, and they don’t swivel 90°. The paddles are fairly standard, and plastic is alright for many situations. Since it’s a cargo bike, and some of the other parts are rated for higher weight and work, I mentioned that aluminum alloy could make sense here. I would probably go with magnesium platform petals from Welgo, which come in many colors!

I'm shopping for an e-bike at the moment and I'm kind of waffling between the Globe ST and the Turbo Como-- Como was my first choice but I'm so short even the size small bike is a touch too big. The guys at the shop eventually made a test ride possible by swapping the suspension seat for one of their non suspension tester seats and lowering as far as possible, but getting on and off was still just the tiniest big awkward. I'd probably adjust but it's a bummer to loose the suspension seat post. The shop assistant suggested I try the Globe and I was very skeptical of the claim that it has a two foot height range but I think that's real. I'm 4'8 and the first time they lowered the seat they went too far and had to raise it back up again. Definitely a better fit for my height than the Como. I did like my test ride a lot but I'm a little unsure if I really want to swap the mid drive motor and internal gear hub for the hub motor, especially with the Como on sale. On the other hand the speed and power of the Globe was super fun and I like the option for the throttle given that I'm exclusively doing city riding with it, it would be nice to be able to get up to speed quickly in intersections. Plus it does seem like it might handle winter a bit better. You've ridden both do you have a preference?
@ElectricBikeReview
@ElectricBikeReview 8 ай бұрын
Howdy! You did a great job explaining your situation. I would probably go for the Specialized Globe Haul in your case. Sure, it's a hub motor, but at least they used a torque sensor vs. a cadence sensor like many similar products. It will feel smooth to pedal, you've got the throttle option, the large tires allow for lower pressure, which acts as basic suspension... it sounds like you could even purchase a suspension seatpost for it! The wider tires will offer stability side to side, and you get similar safety features and water coverage as a Como. Is there anything in particular that's holding you back at this point aside from a small price difference?

@@cadriver2570 What pressure are you running? Because you might have it too high. The recommended pressures I found are too high in the first place. Really depends on your weight and how you weigh the bike. Also if you intentionally ride it hard that plays in impact. I work in the in the tire industry so it is a common misconception. If I have it super loaded 15 psi and if I am on a 4 mile commute to work I have it to 30 psi with just me on it to save battery and improve speed. But that is asphalt.
@cadriver2570
@cadriver2570 8 ай бұрын
@@claymcclendon it would have been stock during the tests. I asked about air pressure on the last two tests (one at specialized, the other at my local shop). I know tires play a big role. As a professional reviewer of ebikes, I would assume that by now you would know the reasoning behind having the charging port lower instead of where you always want it to be. Moving the charging port to the top means extra wiring. Extra wiring means extra points of failure. Having the port at the bottom eliminates this altogether. The pin contacts linking the battery to the bike are already right there. I think it would be more professional to always use logic rather than personal preference when reviewing bikes for consumers.
@ElectricBikeReview
@ElectricBikeReview 8 ай бұрын
I try to come at this as a consumer, even if there are technical reasons to have the port down there… There are other reasons not to, including proximity to water and dust and feet rotating by on pedals. There are many electric bikes that do manage to put the charging port up high on the right side, so I call this out as an area of consideration. Here’s an example of a bike that does it differently, and I celebrate their choice in my review electricbikereview.com/bulls/2023-iconic-evo-tr-2-speed/
