While having a sort out in The Bat Shed, I realised I had enough parts to make a half decent bike for the winter months... and beyond!
This video shows how I did it.
Here's what it consists of...

Forks - 1998 Rockshox SiD
Chainset - Shimano LX with Deckas 36T chainring from eBay
Rear Mech - Shimano LX 9 speed
Shifter - Shimano LX 9 speed
Cassette - Shimano XT 11-30 9 speed
Rims - Rear Mavic D512... Front Mavic 517
Hubs - Rear Shimano... XT Front Dynatech
Tyres - no idea
Pedals - Bent Wellgo
Stem - Kore
Bars - Easton Monkey Lite
Grips - ODI Ruffian
Brakes - Avid levers, XT calipers
Music - Drifting at 432hz by Unicorn Heads

Well done! 👏👏 I must admit I’m a wee bit jelly. I have the same bike, it’s yellow. I’m also not as fast as you, but I completed my first rear derailleur, clutch , pulley’s, chain restoration and installation. Also front derailleur restoration/ installation hydraulic breaks /pads & disks. I’ve never been thought how to do these just watched helpful KZbin videos like yours. I still need a bit more knowledge on minor things, but I’m glad a success was the out come of me loving tools and thinkering with stuff! Thanks, look forward to more videos! Irene M-

Just came across your vlog and you have a new subscriber. I got into mountain biking way back in 1985 and have had about 25 bikes since. Really enjoyed that. Cheers

My first mtb, if that's what you could call it was in 1988. A bright yellow 10 speed Emmelle... it weighed an absolute ton!.. It didn't last long but that spurred on a 30+ year love of mountain bikes. I'm glad you enjoyed it. 🙂

Thank you. I will sort the brakes out at some point and do a video. From the little rest ride I managed, it felt great!

It weighed practically nothing. Tbh, It's not a heavy bike built up.

10 speed with sweet components and a wide ranging cassette definitely. I want to find one of these frames from 2000 or 2001.

It has changed since the video. I have matching Mavic D521's in grey and Deore 1x9 11-42 cassette. I've also added some Swalbe Marathon tyres. I was going to use it for work but, I bought a new Boardman ADV 8.9. My Boardman is an amazing bike. I absolutely love riding it!

@@thomassciaroni6942 it's a red hard tail, original paint and graphics, very good condition (a couple scratches, and small gouges on the drive side chain stay, which I smoothed out with sandpaper). I would like to get $350.

Didn't knew we can reuse a chain without quick link. Also, how good are the Avid brake levers compared to the cheap ones we find on these old bikes, like I have a Promax on my cheap GT Avalanche.

I've not ridden it properly yet. I've had too much going on to ride lately but this bike is going to go through a little bit of a change to make it into a commuter bike. Back in the day before quick links, we pretty much connected chains like this.

nice, did you opt out of a front derailleur, because of lack of parts or your vision of what you wanted for this Stumpy?
@BackPedalBicycleRestoration

I wanted to make it a 1x mainly. Also, I'd never done it before to one of my own bikes.

Nice build man! I have the same exact frame with 2x8 setup. Whats the highest single chainring you could put in this frame? I was planning on 1x conversion. Thanks!
@BackPedalBicycleRestoration

Thank you!.. it all depends on the cassette you're using and if you're planning on riding up, and down hills. It's all about finding an happy balance that works for you. I'm switching all that 9 speed for a larger range 10 speed cassette and maybe a slightly smaller chainring.
