I have had both for several years now and I can tell you both are excellent speakers! I currently use the Ultras in my 2 channel audio room with a Peachtree Nova 300 amp driving them and they are fantastic. I use the Pinnicals in my theater room with full Atmos and 2 SVS Ultra SB16 subs. The Pinnicals are amazing in both 2 channel and full theater mode! Can’t go wrong with either. I do feel like the Ultras are a little more finicky as related to room placement. Good video!

Most reviews stated that Pinnacles have slightly laid back trebble than Prime and Ultra because both were reviewed as with slightly brighter sometimes. So SVS fixed it in Pinnacles. Is it true? Because here it's reverse stated.
@Johnnytrades1014 жыл бұрын
Great job on the video!! Very good description comparing the 2. My experience with the Pinnacles was very close to yours. I found the same at high volumes, had to turn them down. Seemed the tweeter didn't have the same reach as the rest of the drivers. Hearing the Ultras, just by memory, did as you described, seem fuller, highs were very clear and had air . Definitely the bass was better. The one thing I really liked (Pinnacles) was when playing music with prominent drums in the mix....they really had great dynamics, punch ya in the chest when played at a good volume . It seems they really have a sweet spot (volume) where they sound real good, at least that's what I found. Both speakers sound great, especially in a home theatre, and great in a 2ch environment. I think both provide a "best of both worlds" result. I have been a Paradigm fan for more than a decade, so I am biased lol, but! I truly think SVS has done an incredible job with the 2 speakers!! One other note, both the Ultras and the Pinnacles blend incredibly with the SVS subwoofers, a perfect match I think was designed into the entire SVS lineup. There is a lot of competition in the price range of both SVS's, I feel that they are among the very top choices for build quality, performance, and of course cost.
@SpecOfTech4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely John, it sounds like you have great grasp on these 2 speakers. Maybe one day, I can put them up against some Paradigms and we can see where they all stack up ;P. I have been quite interested in getting some Paradigms in my home to check out. Hopefully one day they will deem me fit to send a pair ;). Thanks for watching and for the support as always brother!
@Johnnytrades1014 жыл бұрын
@@SpecOfTech Always!! It is my weekend "thing" :-) That would be a good comparison. They are quite different sounding speakers. The Paradigm Prestige 75F towers are quite a bit smaller, smaller drivers, resulting in a higher bass roll off. Probably around 35hz. Power handling is also less. For me, I really like the sound quality, so far I haven't come across anything I like better. Time will tell lol. The Nuprime MXC 2 (550w/ch) amp that I had almost sent the tweeters for a airplane ride!! the Paradigms are rated at around 180w cont. The Tonewinner AD5180 is a sublime match for them. Hmmm....Nuprime MCX2 running the SVS Ultras!! That I think would be fantastic!!!! (hint hint)

I custom built a center channel set up - with an Aurum Cantus 5.25" woofer in it's own box below my 100" projector screen, and mounted a tang Band tweeter above the screen, using an external Dayton 2 way crossover. The advantage is I can lower my screen to eye level and the center dialogue sounds like it is coming from dead center of the screen. I made this up because I do not like acoustically transparent screens, and hate having a center channel below a big screen. A good idea I thought I would share. The more expensive SVS had a more realistic midrange IMO. Thanks

Another great video Spec Of Tech 👍🏻 Unfortunately I didn’t have the ability to hear any of my SVS speakers in person. I really wish there was a closer SVS dealer. I went off of great KZbin reviews (like yours) & google reviews such as Audioholics to decide upon which SVS products to go with. That being said I am extremely happy with all of my Prime speakers including the Pinnacles. I was debating between the Pinnacles & Ultra’s, but with my space & the recommended placement from SVS, I wouldn’t have had the footprint available for the Ultra’s.

Loved the intro! I listened with my V-Moda Crossfade 2's with a Fiio headphone amp because phone speakers are garbage and the differences we very noticeable. The second last song was closer and the last song I preferred the Pinnacles as the sound stage seemed like I was listening live with the vocals forward and the base behind. I lobe bass as well and would easily choose the Ultra's, though if I didn't listen to the Ultra's, the Pinnacles did a solid job in bass. To me the Ultra's are are easily worth the upgrade. What would be interesting is how they would sound in a 2.1 setup with even a small, but good subwoofer, not the giant Funk's you have. That could really even the playing field and whit the Pinnacles seemingly having clearer highs in some of those tracks, they could be neck and neck. Loved the breakdown and I would recommend that anyone watching on their phone to listen with a quality set of headphones to get a better representation compared to the $9 speakers in your phone
@SpecOfTech4 жыл бұрын
Hey man thanks for the watching. I agree, if you were to incorporate a subwoofer it would muddy the water a little more. Although the mids and highs on the Ultra are smoother. One thing I would like to point out, is that in the video the highs seem clearer, only because they are more emphasized for the mic to record. In person, I wouldn't necessarily say they are clearer, only more pronounced, if that makes sense?
@shaneducholke3644 жыл бұрын
@@SpecOfTech makes a lot of sense, never thought about the mic accepting highs differently, usually affects bass the most. I know that SVS wouldnt have their high end models perform less in any area, it is not as if they just stuck a bigger woofer and a different shaped box.
@SpecOfTech4 жыл бұрын
@@shaneducholke364 haha yeah exactly. But you aren't wrong either, with the highs being more forward, some will interpret that as being clearer, when really it is just louder. I wasn't really able to pick out more detail in the Pinnacle highs than the Ultras. Actually, in the one song it actually sounded like there was a little more detail in the highs of the Ultra. Cool fact, the tweeter in the Pinnacles is the exact some tweeter that is in the Ultras, it is the crossover that makes the difference.

@perrysmiles603 жыл бұрын
Hi Barrett, thank you for choosing to compare these two speakers. I am not much of a music guy, more into home theatre with 4K movies. Therefore, I was more curious as to how these two speakers compare for listening to movies..? At the same time, you mention the Pinnacles being strong on the highs, so I was wondering what your experience is playing them with movies... are they sounding too bright? The reason also for my questioning is that I now have Canton speakers for my Center and Front height Atmos (wall mounted) and set-up as 5.1.2. Wanting to replace my existing Goodmans as front L & R, I had heard that the Cantons sound Bright as towers. So I was considering the Prime Pinnacles, but if they are bright or ear fatiguing as well, I prefer to timber match with Cantons. I would appreciate your opinion here on SVS and Canton for my towers? Kind regards, Perry 🙂
@SpecOfTech3 жыл бұрын
Hey Perry thanks for watching. My advice would be to timbre match you speakers as much as possible. I wouldn't recommend mixing speakers, especially on the front stage. If we were talking side or rear surrounds, it isn't AS important to timbre match, but the front stage is quite important. If you plan on keeping the center channel Canton, I suggest going with Canton towers. Are you able to go listen to Canton speakers anywhere near you? Maybe go have a listen and see what you think, because what is "bright" to some, isn't for others, it is all subjective. I hope that helps...cheers!
@perrysmiles603 жыл бұрын
@@SpecOfTech Thank you for your advice. The Canton dealer where I purchased my speakers usually has only one tower model placed in a demo room for movies. Most models there are set-up to listen to music, but in other separate rooms. I think Cantons are more popular with music lovers than home theatre people, not sure..? As for SVS, I would only have to listen to the Prime Pinnacles if some were set-up somewhere in my area. The one dealer here that sells SVS can order them for me if I wish, however none in his showroom. They carry so many brands that they can't have all of them on demo. How is the sound affected in movies when speakers are different makes on the front stage?

Okay, who the hell thumbs down this video?!!? People suck lol. Anyway, with having a dedicated sub or 3 (lol) do you find it at all necessary to have built in subs on tower speakers? Are built in subs crossed over to perform more as mid to lowrange or are they trying to hit the lows? I've always had my subwoofer doing all the heavy lifting. I've never had good midrange speakers. A good center speaker and a sub goes a long way (for me). Great video, sir.
@SuperemeRed4 жыл бұрын
I perfectly happy without just my SVS Ultra Towers without subs, they get deep enough for the shows, games and movies I watch after some eq boost to the lower regin. I did test with subs before but I think you need a pretty decent one that can do down to and below 20hz confidently for it to really mater when you want that ultra deep movie bass and I don't want to shake my neighbors walls. It also free up space in my room not having to deal with one or two subs. But yes a great sub can fill out below 27hz if you really need those frequencies.

@SpecOfTech4 жыл бұрын
lol thanks for the support brother. With subwoofers the benefit of the Ultra's bass is not quite as noticeable, but is still beneficial. For the most part your mains will be crossed over between 60-90 hz depending on the person, most common is 80hz. The midrange drivers of the Ultras are crossed over at 2 different frequencies to give that 3.5 way design, but ultimately the woofers take over at 160hz. So if you are crossed over at 80hz, the woofers on the Ultras are still giving majority of the output from 160hz to 80hz. This will add to their fullness and richness, and you will still notice the benefit IMO. Luckily for me, despite the size of my subwoofers, they blend in REALLY well.

They are awesome speakers and you can tell they are built very nicely. I have heard the term “bright” but never experienced that myself or what you call ear fatigue. But I would say these are maybe a little too bright for me and they do hurt my ears a little if I listen for a long period of time.

@@FalconsATL That 45 day trial period really does help with the decision. Good luck man, I am sure you will love whichever you decide on. The downside to SVS is they so rarely have sales, and when they do it is just select items.

Appreciate your channel. Good info. Nonetheless, now I feel the need to spend more money than I was hoping and get the ultras. Was thinking Prime towers and Ultra C, but those pinnacles seemed to really emphasize horns and upper midrange frequencies to the point of being a bit fatiguing. I'll be running subs so I'm not as concerned about low end. Maybe I should just consider Ultra BS's on stands? Any experience with the Prime towers? I assume they sound more like the PInnacles than the Ultras.... Also...wonder if that could push could be pulled back a bit with EQ.

man, visually the pinnacles look way better and have an impressive spec sheet but, even though we are hearing this on computer speakers, the ultra towers sound so much better

Hey Barrett, do you think some acoustic treatment on the side of the Funk LFE would help, since your left main is tucked right up next to it?

What's the best place to buy these SVS speaker's? I am looking to go all SVS for my 7.2.4 system with their elevation and dipole surround speakers. Maybe their Ultras or Pinnacles.
@SpecOfTech4 жыл бұрын
I have links in the description. I would really appreciate if you would use those links to purchase. You pay the exact same price as you would elsewhere, and it really helps the channel if you use them. You will love the SVS speakers. I really love mine!

I can hear any difference between both speakers!
@SpecOfTech4 жыл бұрын
It may be hard to hear the differences, depending on what you are listening on. That is more for visual sake anyway, the best way to hear the differences is in person. thanks for watching brother.
@jarednielsen50414 жыл бұрын
Totally depends on what you are listening on. Im using some decent headphones and the difference was very significant. I have listened to many, many speakers though.

I feel that if I get the ultras, my house will blow up lol..I was thinking of getting the PB-1000 Pros to go with the prime pinnacles..what do you think?
@SpecOfTech3 жыл бұрын
The Pinnacles are a great speaker, accompanied by a subwoofer, you won't have any complaints. I will say the Ultra have better midrange and bass, so with a good sub, the Ultras will still have the better midrange. Hope that helps, helping shopping brother.

The ultra towers need an extra 6.5 woofer for the mid range.

The reason the Ultras sound more bassey is because they have subwoofers built into the lower sides of the speakers. Not a fair comparison. Give the Prime Pinnacles a good subwoofer and you'll have met your match!
@SpecOfTech3 жыл бұрын
I get what you are saying, but this video was about the speakers only, how they hold up without any assistance from a subwoofer. In Canada the Pinnacles are only about $400 less per pair, so price wise they are quite close. It is a fair comparison when taking price into consideration. Even with a subwoofer I still preferred the sound of the Ultra towers over the Pinnacles, but of course everyone is different. You may prefer the sound of the Pinnacles with a subwoofer...cheers.
