1:12 love your site Anna! Especially the breakdown of games. 71yrs old I'm playing on-line because of you. Never played with a clock. Still trying to play without losing, because of the clock. So, while watching at game start, I slow my video down... your breakdowns are still too fast for me... Hope some day I grow confident enough to try the street games, maybe tangle with you younger players... note: 1:12 is where I start slowing today's video, and watch at my speed as the game progresses... I believe the old adage, "it's never to late to start"... thnx for the inspiration!

Yeah, I hate the clock too, although a classical game with a couple hours is not so bad. Even at that, if I get down to 10 minutes I feel like I'm in a time scramble. Blitz is way too fast for me. I really think you learn better if you can take it slow. And if you're 71, that's OK. I'm right behind you!

Anna, I just noticed that you turn your knights to face the side of the board!! 😊 My OCD is fully triggered! 😅 What a great strategy to mess with your opponents! I've been watching you for years and never noticed that. Now I won't be able to not notice it again. 😊

I've been placing my knights so that they face each other since I began playing chess, about 50 years ago.
@scubadawgy
@scubadawgy 12 күн бұрын
@@SushiKishi later in the game, maybe it's helpful so you know which side of the board each knight started on by the way it's facing??? 😁. If it's facing right, it's the right knight and vice versa. You have to be a complete psychopath to do that though 🤣 (Anna, I mean that in the nicest way possible. You are, without a doubt, the sweetest, kindest content creator on YT.)

Every body here acts like, "which way a knight faces" makes a difference in the game play. Study hard about it. I will play chess. Come on people. Really? Jeeeech.
@scubadawgy
@scubadawgy 9 күн бұрын
@@EarthSurferUSA So, nobody thinks the way the knight faces actually impacts game play. This is a light-hearted, tongue in cheek conversation about how most people face the knights forward because that feels like the natural way to face them, as if the horses (knights) are charging into battle. Facing them a different way is like looking at cupboard handles that are misaligned or if only one of the glasses on a table setting is placed upside down. You're kind of compelled to fix that.

Around 6:00 mark, both players missed a defensive tactic for black: After Nxc4, black had Bxf4 because after Nb6, black can slide the c8 rook behind the queen, pinning the e3 pawn against recapturing on f4.
@SchighSchagh
@SchighSchagh 10 күн бұрын
I mean, I guess white _can_ play exf Qxs2 Nxe2 Rxe2 without losing material... yet. But at that point white b2 d4 and f4 pawns are all weak, and black has a rook on the sedond rank ready to gobble all of them up.

A bishop is "bad" only because it's the same colour as the central pawns. ( Usually fixed). Nothing to do with its value. It can be active or passive. Bit of a misnomer, actually. There are bad, active bishops like yours and good, passive bishops. If the pawn structure changes a bad bishop can become good...

When you are in those embarrassing moments before a game when you are supposed to make small talk and you don't know what to say, always always make some inane remark about the weather. Preferably about the Amazon. Like, "wow that's some weather they are having in the Amazon!". If your opponent actually responds you can say something like "i heard they are having tornadoes and everything is on fire" (make sure you have a big grin when saying this). When your opponent checks it out later and finds out it is not true, of course she will think you're crazy, but you will soon become known as the most "fun" person at any tournament.🤪

Hi, i just started playing after seeing your videos. I saw online bishop is better than knight. If I trade my bishop for the opponent’s knight early in the game, do I slightly reduce my chances of winning ? I find knights more useful because I can attack the queen easier and knights move funny so I can trap the opponent easier (I play against 400 rating). But again, I’ve only played for a week so I’m not sure. Thanks !

Anna you need to learn how to use the time to your advantage, in this case for example, you was on the offensive and your opponent on defense, don’t trade the knight, because then it would make her move more easy to make, instead complicate the position, make her think and the opponent will crumble, she did anyway, proving that you should had go for her time.
