The thing is, if all GM's behaved like Caruana, chess probably wouldn't have got that much attention. Chess in this time and age is entertainment too, hence the success of people like the Botez sisters, for example. Guys like Fabio just don't sell.

@@dieminervaeule people dont get personality traits after they become chess GMs. It's more than likely that those GMs youre speaking about had those personality beforehand. It's not about "who sells", Magnus didn't become a 5-time WC because he sells, he became a WC because he's great. Neither Hikaru waited for the moment to become one of the best chess players in the world to become adversarial and kind of a dick sometimes. I understand your logic, but it simply doesn't apply IRL
@dieminervaeule
@dieminervaeule 9 сағат бұрын
@@exapsy You didn't understand me fully, I guess. Yes, I know that their personalities didn't come with their titles. I'm just saying that chess wouldn't be nearly as popular as it is today if the top players were all like Caruana, and that the players who contributed the most to chess becoming popular (Gotham for example) did so because they are able to sell the game due to being entertaining, and not solely because of their chess skills.
