not only do they have to put that fire out, but they have to contain and collect all the water they use for proper disposal. Sometimes it's best to let it burn a while until you're set up to handle it properly and avoid an environmental disaster.

That super black is partial combustion products, consisting of oxides and organics of whatever chemicals are burning, suspended in carbon globules. That means lots of highly bioavailable toxins for animal life. The orange hue low and downwind looks like nitrogen compounds. They're also quite toxic but have the added bonus of being highly corrosive.
