It's uncanny. Like Callas, Ms Rebekka has an equally robust voice, within a similar range and with the same depth and clarity of sound; perhaps even a more accurate tuning (which is not necessarily a virtue: we all know that part of what made Callas unique was the way in which she could deviate from a note by a fraction, either not quite reaching, or just barely surpassing, the exact tone, in order to achieve summits of drama and expression not ever reached again by any). Even more uncanny, Ms Rebekka has, at times, that same strange, metallic quasi-vibration in the back of the throat that made Callas' voice unique and unmistakably recognizable among a million other voices. It's without a doubt a golden voice. Ultimately, however, what I miss in all assolutas that are not Callas, is not the instrument, but that fragility of sudden perfection, the anxiety of seeing the miracle before my eyes vanish in a suffering at the edge of human capacity which was each Callas performance... From her first appearance on stage, one was wrenched by the same anguish and awe one feels when facing Agamemnon as he confronts Clitemnestra, not realizing that he'll be murdered... Such passionate intensity made every Callas performance in a very real sense, her last, and therefore her most precious...

Marina is definitely an Assoluta but even this extremely rare vocal type does not mean that the person who holds it, is at the same level as Callas... a friend pmed me after I posted this and said: she will destroy her voice... No she wont... because she is not giving 120% of her voice in every performance, she does not sing with the interest of her Voice as Price did, she does sing with the capital but not 100% or 120% of the capital but Id say 90% and that preserves the vocal health... her In mia man was even more spectacular (pure, genuine chest / mezzo soprano placement and a spectacular held C6)… Brilliant singing, simply Brilliant from an exceptionally gifted Voice and musical Artist

Her tuning is remarkable. The overtones in her voice keep her so on pitch. Her Intonation is so spot on - one seldom hears singers in this repertory that have such a free and easy top

OMFG... this started playing by its own (after another) and I started listening to it in the middle and I said: omg who sings THIS BEAUTIFULLY this so well known piece to me... so I turned to the pc only to see Marina... (hadnt happened this to me for a while... best way to appreciate a singer is not knowing who he or she is when they sing... that way you are totally unbiased)

yes the Oropesa team made a violent copyright strike to one of the posts and it almost shut down my channel (they could have just asked me to delete all posts as I did) Same thing had happened with Lezhneva that is why I don't post of her anymore although I admire her deeply... they can just ask me to delete the post... I ll never understand why they get so violent

@@LohengrinO Oh, I assume it's about the Lucia posts, right? Apparently the theatre in Madrid suddenly decided they didn't want their stuff online. I think there isn't a single video of it remaining on KZbin. It's a shame, really. Now that I think about it I think I read something someone from her team posted about them being quite sad about it. They said it was all great publicity. 😂 Could it be that the theatre is planning to sell their soul to a record company?

@@LohengrinO Yes. They could've handled it better. Theatres and record companies in general can sometimes be a real pain in the arse. And the worst thing is that if they are indeed planning to release the recording, the singers are most likely not going to get any money from it. I mean, yeah, the singers technically do not own the rights, but they also are the reason why people would pay in the first place. Right now Oropesa is getting enough recognition, but it is because of those kinds of posts that people got to hear her, which is why her team is supposedly heartbroken about the videos getting removed. That is indeed the way many great singers are discovered by the public. I hate that such a thing happened to you.

I understand completely that companies of the modern singers want to handle the rights etc but I am just a person who makes good posts (I have never monetized anything, the adds-profit goes directly to the companies because 90% of the posts are instantly claimed electronically by the companies and the profits go to them so I actually have the adds on to show the companies they can earn money from my posts)

You know how much I adore the sustained legato Bellini line. I think she is exquisite, but she doesn't especially move me. Also that first high Bb5 was a bit screamy. But compared to the horror shows Bel Canto has endured in recent decades, it's great to hear someone sing Norma with a fully formed voice across 3 octaves.

@@LohengrinO Oh Callas lives in another dimension. I actually think Marina is a pretty incredible singer technically, but I need to feel moved in Norma, transported into Bellini's music. I feel like these singers are so afraid to transcend the music in case they lose their voice.

Adelaida Negri, on this final, sounds like her absolute, passionate teacher. But... it´s such a great difference... I heard her live around five times; live, not a recording. Here in KZbin (kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3fCnKOqlp2NmNU) you may listen her live at Barcelona´s Liceo, showing part of it, but several years later (she sang Norma for more than 20 years, Met included) her final was the most emotional one...
