My childs father also decided to CHOOSE and move well over 1,000 miles away and i could never hold her from him just because he didnt give me an entires months notice!!! Thats just crazy to me.....Even if he flew up here unexpectedly or on a whim for whatever reason, id still allow him to take her for the entirety of his visit! Holding your child from the other parent because you dont think a 2 weeks notice is an efficient enough amount of time, is a complete CROCK OF S**T in my opinion!

I haven't made it to this part yet, but I'm still iffy on weed parenting. When you's responsibly I don't have a problem with it, but like alcohol if it's not used responsibly it can cause problems. I've seen it. It's not as big of a problem as alcohol can turn out to be, but nonetheless the problems can be there. The same goes for some prescription medications. When used responsibly there's no issue, but when you overstep that line it becomes an issue. I completely understand why some judges look down on it a little bit still. Whether it's legal or not.

The amount of grown adults out there with kids who don’t even have a license or have had them suspended is absolutely ridiculous. It speaks volumes about the types of person they are. It’s one thing to be in a city and rely on public transportation, but once there is a kid involved, just get the damn things and keep them. It’s better to have them on hand and never use them as opposed to never having them and coming up on a situation where you do need them … like this situation where the mother could help greatly by just being able to take the kid herself at a set time without all the hassle involving the courts and demanding someone else put their job at risk.

That first one seems weird. Both the mother and father were planning on moving to Hawaii. She backed out just prior to moving. The father didn't just up and leave. They were planning to move together. 30 day notice is ridiculous to see his child.

Let me say I was sadly divorced when my daughters were 2 and 4 years old... For the first 2 months I had full custody with support of my family daily which made work and home time very easy.... My Ex was talked into filing for custody and it being the late 70's of course the Mother won anything and everything they would ask for unlike today. I was given first and third weekends, 4 days a month to see my children.... BUT found the mother was more than happy to allow me to take the girls more often allowing her to play instead of caring for the girls... I paid support for 16 years and ended with a great relationship with both my girls. I ended up paying for college also since the mother turned out to be a dead beat following how the term is used... Thank GOD they turned out great in spit of their mother and I being their parents... things are very different today. Fathers actually have rights that were never given back even in the 80's.

viewers can also try to use these real life situations to think through the short term and long term pain children endure when parents separate/divorce. Understand the importance of letting the kids love both parents and not using as pawns against the other parent, nor as the go-between for the grown-ups.. Maybe see THEMSELVES, and feel ashamed, sad, and regretful over things they said and did during the divorce. Can't go back in time & change it but can seek ways to heal or make amends if appropriate- meaning won't bring up trauma. I had good friends who told me what I needed to hear, not what i wanted to hear during mine. Made changes, had to stay alert to not give in to anger/hurt. apologized to kids and asked for forgiveness. Both parents took ownership of individual contributions that led to divorce outcome. Didn't erase bad memories and feelings; but they knew they were loved, wasn't their fault, nothing to do with them, it was their parents decision. Its hard to watch many of these cases. Young children dont want either parent to hurt. Try treating other parent with respect and civility. If absolutely cannot, don't talk about the other in front of the kids.. doesn't mean other parent is right or the better person doesn't cost anything. Allow kids to be kids. Imho.

I had a kid who decided in fifth grade that he didn't want to go to school anymore. We pulled him out and we never regretted it. But we didn't just let him stop doing school... we gave him a trial run of afternoon work to show him what homeschooling would be like. Then we pulled him home, but I taught him myself, full time -- and you better believe that I was a lot more rigorous than his public school teachers ever were!!! What's more, he loved it. He was never looking for a way out of schoolwork, he was looking for a way to get sufficient challenge not to be bored silly, as well as a way to avoid bullies who liked to pick on the small kid with the big mouth. We homeschooled him from 6th grade through 9th; then he went back to public high school because there was an international program he wanted to do. He's still in that and doing great. It's not always wrong to listen to a kid who says they want to leave school, but you have to listen to *why* they want to, and be realistic with them about what it's okay to change and what it isn't.

@@DomVonDoom He had friends via synagogue, whom he saw every week there; and also visited with after school hours during the week whenever we could arrange it. Besides that, we have a pretty big extended family including a lot of cousins that he spent time with. It got much harder during the last 18 months because of Covid, of course, but that would've been true whether he'd been in the public schools or not, since the public schools were running from home that year anyhow. He had actually originally requested to go back to high school in 9th grade, but his school was still doing things remotely by then, and we decided together that if he had to do school alone, he might as well do it with the setup that was *intended* for him to be working alone, rather than having him do school 'alone' at the same time as a lot of other kids, none of whom really knew how to work this way (nor did the teacher). So we kept him out one more year, and sent him back to brick and mortar school in tenth, when they'd started up in person again.

I really tried to be the best teacher I could be, and I think the most important thing was that I made very sure *before* I removed him from regular school that he was asking for good reasons that made sense, and that he had a realistic view of what it actually was going to be like. In fact, the moment I made the final decision to go ahead and homeschool him the following year was one afternoon, when we were doing the 'practice homeschooling' after his regular schoolday was finished, to help him understand what it would be like to work under me and help me understand whether he was serious. I had asked him to write a short essay, and we were going over it together. I wasn't being harsh with him or anything, but I was definitely coming down much tougher on mistakes than his fifth grade teacher ever did, or probably any other teacher he'd ever had, either. My son had never done badly on an essay before, and even though I assured him that on the whole, it *wasn't* bad, I also stopped at every single place I thought it could be improved and we talked about them. By the end of the session, we had been working on a one-page essay for an hour and a half, and my poor son was in tears. This was nothing like any review of his schoolwork that he'd ever had, because I'm a stricter teacher than he'd ever had. When I saw he was crying, I stopped and asked if he was okay, and then gently reminded him that this was an example of the way I teach. Did he still want to work with me instead of the school system, I asked? It was okay if he didn't; the whole point of this was to figure out what he really wanted. Without hesitating a single moment, tears still running down his face, my eleven-year-old instantly nodded hard. He was sure. The fact that it hurt to be held to a higher standard than he was used to didn't mean he didn't *want* to be held to a higher standard, it just meant he needed to adjust to it, I saw. If he could sit there in tears and still tell me this was what he wanted to do, I knew he meant it. And if he didn't want to back out right now, when it was hard enough to make him cry, he wasn't going to want to back out when he was really doing it just because it was hard, or because I asked more of him than he expected. I talked to his father that night, and we agreed the next day to pull him from school after the end of that school year. He absolutely thrived in four years of homeschooling, and he's thriving just as much in brick and mortar school now that he's back there. I honestly don't know whether he could have done the international baccalaureate program he's in right now, if he had tried to do it after going straight through the American middle school system... it's very tough work, and he has enjoyed getting his teeth into it, but he needed all that experience doing hard academic work to a high standard before he ever started the program... and there's no way he would have received that experience in the middle school he'd have attended.

I wish you or someone like you would have taught me. I was a good child in public school, a fair student with A's, B's, and C's. I was very shy and insecure. But I loved science class, learning about chromosomes and such. I was 14, female, 10th grade, really getting into the subject when I unconsciously raised the 2 front legs of my chair off the floor, maybe 2 inches. I did not fall, teeter, rock, or disturb anyone. But, I was held after class. The 4 teachers waited till the next 2 classes were waiting to come in before they made me bend over and paddled me‼️ I can not describe the damage that did. Shamefully, I let that moment dictate my life for several years. I could not drop out of school but I quit participating. I did the very barest amount of work to keep a D and E average to graduate. I started drinking, smoking pot, and skipping classes. That was 43 years ago. I will always wonder if I had it in me to be a Scientist or college material or anything better than I was. In short, your son is very blessed that you listened to him and gave him what he needed. I wish every child could be so lucky 💞

My dad was disabled and raised me at home while mom worked. When I was ~15, it was expected that I'd mostly make decisions for myself, and I stopped getting feedback and/or help from them. Yet I still had to take care of dad and still do, 20 years later. He tried the friend thing, and got me started smoking weed. I'm fairly responsible with things like that, and I barely ever drink, but he started allowing that stuff far too young, imo. He had a stroke in 2004, and has been slowly degrading mentally and physically since then. I still can't get any reasonable help or advice from my family, everything is so centered around him. It's been pretty difficult to figure out how to actually adult, because I don't really have a good example within my family. I think I'm doing OK now, but it's still hard

The daughter in the last case probably fears going to both parents' houses because she's being traumatized by the drama that plays out every time there's supposed to be a handover. It seems to be the mother's fault, but a 9-year-old will come to fear going to her dad's house too because she doesn't understand whose fault the pain is - she's not allowed to know, so instead of fearing her mom, she fears and tries to prevent the handovers.

I did the same to my ex. He wanted every other weekend, I wanted every other week. His excuse was also work. So the Judge mentioned what about your ex wife’s work, se also has to work around that. So the Judge made an order, 50/50. This went on for about 10 years, they are all grown up now. He was not happy to begin with, but a couple of years ago he thanked me for pushing it through. Al 3 kids have a great relationship with their dad and me😁 P.S. I also wanted 50/50 so that the kids could never accuse me of not letting them see their father.

On the child thing- why is judge getting mad at dad for having a job? Many people could take off in order to pick child up at 3pm Thurs and Friday 2 times a month. Him asking that his boss may say nope you need to find a new job for that schedule
