Theres a mix of things that ruined casual gaming. People's mindset of video games. They treat them like its a job/life or death, if they dont do well then someone is going to take them outside and shoot them in real life. They think if they try hard enough and spend an embarrassing amount of time on it they can go pro and make a living out of it. Videos/content creators. Content creators are constantly making videos of the next "meta". Like they go out of their way and analyze every single gun and attachment trying to figure out what is the absolute best instead of just picking a gun they enjoy using. Compared to older cod games the variety of guns used has dropped significantly and majority of people use the same exact loadout because a random streamer/content creator told them to. Money. People think if they played well enough then they could make videos/stream and earn money from them.

I definitely think youtube/streaming has destroyed casual gaming. On top of all the "BEST CLASS EVER OMG" videos and guides to spawn trap on every map, just having the ability to watch the top players in the world raises skill level. It's even affected solo games at this point. It's impossible to talk about your build on Elden Ring without 20 people calling you trash because you aren't using the latest and greatest most optimized meta build. It seems that people only play games to get things like dark matter/master prestige to say they did it, then they move on to the next grind. The love of the game is gone.
