I’ve played a lot of matches over the last few days, mostly experimenting. I’m actually digging a weird deck combo, Moltres, Nine tails, Centiskorch. Run a couple Blaine’s. Nine tails comes online super fast and can remove Pikachu with Blaine. Centiskorch is like Arcanine EX, actually hits a bit harder and doesn’t kill itself. Might not be cutting edge meta but it’s fun and can end matches quick
@PokemonMasterKendo7 күн бұрын
There's definitely been some experimenting going on with Centiskorch! At least I've seen a few talk about it on Twitter haha...but my thinking is like with most games that have a "meta" to speak of: *Whatever* gets you the win, more power to ya! I love watching people that win these games with solutions outside of the typical meta

I’m pretty new to TCG’s. Are most them this luck based like pokemon pocket?
@ktinksedits55846 күн бұрын
Pocket is a way simpler version of the actual TCG so I would say in pocket it's a lot more based on luck. Like most card games TCG is based on luck too but there's a lot of tough decisions you have to make since the decks and gameplay are able a lot more complex.
@ktinksedits55846 күн бұрын
Sorry by TCG I'm referring to Pokemon TCG. In regards to other card games I don't really know but I did try Magic once and it seems the same way. There always a luck component but it's a lot more complex and there's a lot of decision making. But it's actually funny because the only magic game I played I got extremely lucky and beat the guy teaching me. Granted he was helping but not letting me win
@PokemonMasterKendo6 күн бұрын
In general they aren’t, only certain facets, like coin flipping, would have the luck element (though I suppose you can also draw a lucky or unlucky hand, but that’s less of a factor for most other TCG), but none of them will be like Pokemon TCG Pocket in this regard. While I think some of this will be mitigated once Pocket releases more cards and more features, I think it will be more luck-based compared to others simply because it’s only 20 cards, 3 prize points for victory, and more quick/streamlined overall, so that just kinda leaves it vulnerable to those luck-based mechanics. It’s still incredibly fun and still can be altered by players’ choices!

It’s not as satisfying because I don’t get to play my favorite pokemon cards, but hopefully they bring out more features and cards in the future that’ll mitigate the current meta builds.

I run both a Jynx and a Slowbro in my varient. Jynx can apply early pressure that we've seen her apply. While Slowbro can be a decent Tank, providing time to power up Mewtwo to 3+ Energy or acting as an alternate wincon. Not only do these 2 (3) additions take some pressure off of Mewtwo, it is also a soft defense against Red Cards. If I already have a Jynx, Slowbro and Mewtwo on turn 3/4, I'm less worried about getting Gardevoir. While I may not have her to act as a battery, sacrificing Jynx and/or Slowbro gives me time to get those Energy from stalling the 2-4 turns it takes to knock them out. I think people rushed too much to try and find the fastest, most optimized decks, leading them to overshoot the mark. In the case of Mewtwo Ramp, there really are not enough good Trainer cards to be running 12, in my opinion. I don't rate Red Card as being very good. At least, not right now. One reason why I do not think so is how limited the deck sizes are. The first player can easily reduce their remaining deck size from 16 to 12 by dropping 2 Pokeballs and then an Oak. All 4 of those cards can, usually be played, leaving the player with the original 0-3 cards in their hand. That leaves the best case scenario for Player 2's Red Card to have an equal shuffle and draw. Of course, that's best case scenario, but it's a scenario I have had play out many times. Being Red Carded has never cost me a match, but it has won me matches. Same results many times I have tried Red Carding my opponent. It's use either didn't matter or was a detriment to the one who used it. I use 2 Oaks, 2 Giovanni, 2 Sabrina, 2 Pokeball and 1 X Speed. The only hyperaggro thing I do os not use potions. I'd rather be able to eek out a little more damage with Giovanni where I need it or get an advantageous switch with Sabrina and/or X Speed. It's still fast. It's consistent and it can beat WAK, despite the weakness damage and chicanery.

If the guy with the Mewtwo deck brought out ralts instead of Mewtwo, he could have used it to buy him some time. The ralts takes the hit but he brings Mewtwo out with two energy and could have had a chance at taking out Pikachu in two hits. Instead he brought out Mewtwo first, let him take a hit, then wasted a retreat to bring ralts out when he could have just done it in the first place. Well played by both.

@PokemonMasterKendo yeah I mean the game is mostly luck based, so it’s quite disappointing to see an advantage thrown away like that, especially in a tournament setting. must’ve been the nerves. The only way Saitama wins there is if he has 2 potions or a Giovanni in hand, and it’s unlikely for him to have either. Shiba completely disregarded the Giovanni and potion he had in his hands in that moment.

What's interesting is that even with all the above, usually Pikachu EX decks are still taking that first place spot (and a large representation of the Top 8 decks) in tournaments across the board for the most part. But ultimately, TCG Pocket being digital *does mean* they COULD make balance changes to specific cards & whatnot, but something inside me just feels & believes they *won't* do any editing of the actual cards, but instead go the route of releasing new cards that either act more like direct counters *or* just evolve the meta strategies to allow for more viable options than just Pikachu EX and Mewtwo EX decks that we currently see. They could also do mini-Promo drops kinda like they have with the Lapras EX promos event, and those could be some faster ways to inject change into an over-reaching meta. Thanks so much for the comment and for viewing!

@invertbrid8 күн бұрын
Very risky as Saitama had decent number of cards in his hand. Pretty high chance one of em would be potion. Plus Saitama can play around it easily with switching Zapdos to zebra and one shot the Jynx lol. And Mewtwo doesn't have enough energy to one shot zebra after, can just retreat zebra again then bring Zapdos. Ggs either way.
@Majorskillissue1015 күн бұрын
@@invertbrid 10:35 is definitely a misplay. Saitama actually needs 2 potions in his hand to survive the Jynx hit because Shiba actually has a Giovanni in his hand meaning Jynx will be able to hit for 100 in the next turn. Plus it’s just obvious that using 2 energy for a retreat there just leads to an inevitable loss, you lose all of your momentum and initiative and give up any chance of ever killing the zapdos. Sacrificing mewtwo and playing for 100dmg Jynx has a much higher probability of winning. Additionally, you’re wrong about the Zebstrika swap because Shiba had a potion in his hand, which he could’ve used on the Jynx to stop the Zebstrika from one shotting the Jynx. If this happens, Shiba actually has an advantage at this point and a high likelihood of winning. The only counter-play is for Saitama to have a Giovanni of his own to enable his Zebstrika to one shot the Jynx. Essentially Shiba wins with optimal play as long as Saitama does not have 2 health potions or a Giovanni. We can conclude that retreating Mewtwo is a MAJOR mistake probably made as a result of panic and irrational thinking, which threw away a potential advantage and completely lost the game.
