I had no idea about Keldor until the 200x series, & I thought that was an AWESOME addition to the lore! I never thought about who he was before Skeletor. I bet he was really pissed when Sy-Klone shows up & he's a Master who everybody loves!

Great video. Thank you! I loved this figure. I ended up using the Millennial Relaunch Skeletor's dual swords for this guy until the Weapons Paks version was released. I might someday try replicating the customised version you showcased here, so thanks for sharing that! Now, to pester Mattel to get MOTUC going again in a couple of years, and push for a "burning head" pack-in!

Wow I really love that idea for his power sword. That classic sword in different colors and abailty to change colors is so Superior to that double handle sword from the 2000 series. Also it must be amazing to see a line you worked for be so beloved and watch its value rise on the second hand market. Keep it up Scott.

I thought it was heavily hinted at in the minicomic. Idk, I grew up with a few episodes of 200X on VHS as well as a handful of figures I got from garage sales, so my familiarity with that interpretation may have influenced how I read the minicomic, as I only read the minicomics back in like late 2018 or 2019, because I got back into MOTU because of the She-Ra reboot and the Injustice crossover (one of my biggest disappointments is that we will never get Shazam He-Man as a figure).

Is there a reason why the Classics head sculpt for Keldor was so different from the 200X sculpt? The other 200X heads were very faithful to the source material but not Keldor..?
@spectorcreative18724 жыл бұрын
It was not meant to be in 200X style but in the style of a hypothetical vintage figure updated to classics.
@justinmohan71034 жыл бұрын
Do you still work for Mattel. It seems they are not doing well financially. I wish Classics would come back, not gonna buy Origins. Thanks for all your hard work, we just needed a few more vehicles and doing the new characters in MOTUC format would have been cool. We didn't get a mimi-comics Try-Klops. I think he had different variations in the mini-comic, but I think Loyal Subjects did some of the variants.

@justinmohan71034 жыл бұрын
Why didn't you do a battle armour that flipped around, like the vintage toy. You guys did a good job with this line, I wish it would come back and we could finish some of the characters off. It would have been nice to get a MOTUC Tri-Klops from the mini-comics. The new origins line is horrible. I hope Classics come back for sure, if Mattel survives, it all makes sense about why Super7 lost MOTU. Mattel needs the money. It would have been nice to even get the concept characters, and some of the other stuff floating around online.
@spectorcreative18724 жыл бұрын
Doing the actual flip around function would have required a new tool for the chest with a mechanism in it, and MOTUC did not have the tooling budget for that! (based on sales).
@justinmohan71034 жыл бұрын
@@spectorcreative1872 Thanks so much for answering that. I always wanted that feature in the Classics version. Now I don't have to wonder anymore.

I never liked Keldor being a good prince before turning bad. I always imagined his bitterness came from not being a part of the royal family. Being the result of an affair Miro had with a Gar then being left growing up in poverty, knowing he should have been prince. Maybe Miro didn't even know Keldor existed. Could play into the racism against Gars and how Miro would never admit to loving or having a relationship with one in the past. The good prince gone bad is too cliche and a copy of Anakin/Vader.
@Beedo_Sookcool4 жыл бұрын
That's also a great take on it! Love it! Thing is, though, there are really only about five or six different stories out there, that have been "ripping off" previous similar stories for millennia. And the most successful ones usually stick to the outlines Joseph Campbell worked up from comparing them all. Might as well stick with what works. 😉
@trence54 жыл бұрын
I think some of that was involved in how he turned out. Sort of like Loki from the first Thor movie and that last Thundercats series. He could not be king because his mother was a Gar, despite the possibly that he may have even been first born.
@spectorcreative18724 жыл бұрын
Yeah but even Anakin/Vader has roots in classic mythology.
@sledgehama4 жыл бұрын
You really made a rod for your own back by sticking to internal story & design logic with Keldor’s swords! I remember the ongoing ‘controversy’ over that and how people just couldn’t seem to grasp the concept of both Classics and 200X being reinterpretations of the same Platonic Forms of MOTU characters and concepts. Still, that split blade classic style power sword in orange and purple idea does look cool!
@spectorcreative18724 жыл бұрын
Yeah kinda wished we did that!

The fact that 10 years later (A decade) the overwhelming majority of fans still bring up the 200x sword controversy against you should tell you how stupid your decision was. Fans understood what "classicizing" a figure meant. The entire 200x Keldor sword controversy could have been avoided with some honesty: "Hey we didn't have the tooling budget. But we'll get to them eventually". Instead of trying to justify the decision creatively and talk to customers like they were idiots. "You just don't understand what we're going for here." No, we get it. You didn't have the money then lied about it. ---------------- The figure itself was pretty close to perfect. The headsculpt remains one of the best in the line, the cape was appreciated, and the more vibrant blue you used on Keldor was much better than the base Skeletor's washed out blue. It's just a shame that a pretty great toy was marred by yet another dumb self inflicted wound. There were a lot of them in MOTUC over your tenure. No 200x heads for Buzz Off or Clawful. No Filmation head for Filmation Hordak, Snout Spout's rotting trunk, 200x Evil Lynn being a cheap repaint despite having the tooling budget, no 200x Keldor swords, attempting to sell a cheap repaint Snake MAA, reverse shoulders on King Hsss, black plastic on the figures. Others were clearly not your fault - defective breaking Green Goddess, reverse shoulders King Hsss, cracking torso's on Roboto, I generally thought you did a good job with the line, but you were rightly ridiculed for the lack of 200x Keldor swords. It's like packaging Darth Vader with no lightsaber or one of the 4 Ninja turtles without their iconic weapons.

Well hey, we got to the sword in time, so now 10 years later and into the future we can all be happy. But hey you bring up great points.
