The last time I saw Shaun we were laughing about being dad's and talking about where did the time go? I told him that I was proud of him and he represents us everywhere he goes. He told me how Donald Fagen is a great storyteller and I told him that I was jealous that he saw Mark King play bass live...😂 He said he was gonna take some time off to be with his family and said that we would link with RC to catch up soon... From our years on Five Mile and Pentagon Parkway till that last dap at the Fair and EVERYTHING in between, we had fun🙏🙏🙏 My prayers are with every person that my friend's life touched... Wear your crown Bro❤

Thank you for releasing this video. A fitting tribute to an incredible talent. RIP to an amazing musician and amazing person. I've been playing The Yellow Jacket pretty much on loop on my morning commutes this week. So, I figured I'd quickly share a minor audience moment with Shaun when I saw Snarky Puppy at a jazz festival in Shanghai, China... my girlfriend, friend and I'd managed to snag a spot right at the front after Tommy Emmanuel had finished the previous set and the crowd had dispersed a little (great guest list that year!). Snarky Puppy were setting up, and Shaun was standing behind the keys scanning the crowd, and I happened to catch his eye. I immediately pointed at him and mouthed "you're awesome" to him. He did a double take from across the stage and after a beat he just pointed right back at me and mouthed "YOU'RE awesome". We both laughed, and that was it. They played an amazing set. It was such a silly, fleeting moment, and obviously I can't claim to have known him. But sharing that short, joyful moment with a musician I adored meant a lot to me. Anyway, yeah. RIP Shaun.

Man God I’m going to miss him but he hit me with something at 6:30 with that MKS-20 that’s “He’s Worthy” by Jonathan Greer. It was like he was speaking and said no matter what, remember where I came from. The anointing was so powerful, and yes talent was in him but his humility and his anointing and that smile made you love him so much more. What an amazing life to live. Graduation to heaven. Spectrasonics prove once more to be the best around, not only because the best musicians chose it, but because they chose the best musicians. I miss my brother, Shaun.....I was first exposed to his incredible musical gifts through my brother, Geno Young (MD for Erykah Badu) in the late 90's....and then I had a chance to tour with him in 2003-2004 for Kirk Franklin's HOPEVILLE tour (I was then Yolanda Adam's Music Director)....and it was heaven for me to experience both Shaun and Bobby Sparks, as we all ministered together.....we then came together again to do performance dates with Dave Chapelle for his Juke Joint shows, and we had a ball just performing/jamming/creating....there was one night where we played in New Orleans for the NBA All-Star weekend, and it was myself, Shaun, Jon Baptiste & Robert Glasper playing keys AT THE SAME TIME behind various artists that evening...It was SUCH a VIBE....... his spirit was playful, his energy infectious, and his demeanor was ALWAYS INVITING...he embodied my sentiment of "Music is meant to be shared by all...." I reached out to him about a year or two later when he came to Oakwood University (in Huntsville, Alabama) with Kirk Franklin to reconnect when the concert was over. I had my early teenage nephew with me.....and while I introduced him to Kirk....he only wanted to take pics with Shaun, as he was a BIG Snarky Puppy fan. I also reached out to Shaun about playing on a few things that I was working on in the studio....and I asked him what it would cost me....He said "maaaan, NUTHIN', you FAM"..... I never had a chance to send my music to him....but I appreciated his generosity, ALWAYS. I miss my brother....may he rest in peace. Thank you, Eric, for sharing this gem. This embodies the Shaun Martin I always knew.... Bless you, Daryl L.A. Hunt (DAWU)
