What makes speaking difficult in this challenge (warning: this explanation is somewhat long): You use your working memory (your ability to store and manipulate information in your mind) to talk. Working memory is also commonly known as short term memory. When you speak, you bring words from your vocabulary together and connect them in a sentence using your working memory. The part of your working memory you use to talk, the phonological loop, also processes speech information you hear and can typically hold about 2 seconds of speech information. Your phonological loop can only do one thing at a time: process what you hear, subvocalize what you're thinking, etc. It is also incredibly difficult to ignore hearing your own voice (similar to how your attention shifts to someone calling your name rather than ignoring that person). So when Grace and Joey wanted to say things they've memorized, they had to recall that information into their working memory; however, the sound of their voice kept distracting their phonological loop, making it difficult for them to put the words together into something "speakable". Also, you may have noticed that they were able to say more words/letters if they spoke faster. This is due to the ~2s limit of speech info the phonological loop can handle. Hope this helped those of you who were curious :)

It is just delayed audio so that you hear yourself a few seconds later than normal. Confuses your brain because it constantly tries to play catch-up with the audio. It is always really funny to see someone use it fir the first time.

We all have it memorized. Everybody has to say it every morning in school until you graduate. From Kindergarten or 1st grade until Grade 12 (the last year). All the students have to stand up together, face the American flag, put their hands over their hearts, and say the Pledge of Allegiance. I know it sounds super weird now when I'm actually writing it out like this.....but, yeah. That's just what we do. So yeah, I mean unless a kid was homeschooled his or her entire life, there is no doubt he or she would have the Pledge of Allegiance memorized after saying it for 12+ years. Or at least remember most of it.
