Fun fact: This movie was originally conceived as being Die Hard 3 back in the early 90s. Multiple scripts planned as original films that would be changed as a Die Hard sequel were axed by Bruce Willis himself, feeling they were all carbon copies of the original movie. (Which was common in the 90s.) And one of the scripts they had was basically "Die Hard on a ship" with John McClane fighting terrorists, but it was deemed too similar to Under Siege (1992), so it was tweaked and farted out as this movie. Also, the script for Die Hard With a Vengeance (originally titled "Simmon Says") was intended to be Lethal Weapon 4 at one stage.

The salt is real. Universal Studios has a falling out with Walter Hill when he moved to Fox. They buried Streets of Fire after it bombed in 1984, and refuse to distribute it on Blu Ray. That was supposed to be a Trilogy, but it had the bad luck to come out around the same time as The Terminator.

It's amazing what a difference a different director and script makes with the same actor/actress; Sandra Bullock in Crash (2004) and Willem Dafoe in Platoon (1986). Both movies won an Academy Award for best movie of the year. And both Sandra Bullock and Willem Dafoe starred in this flop of a movie.

I loved Speed and Die Hard when I was a kid. I watched them all the time, and even as a kid I was confused why Speed 2 was Rated PG-13 after Speed was Rated R. It was such a boring waste of time. Which is why it's strange how it's the same director. Speed got 94% on RT, Speed 2 got 4%.
