Los Angeles police officer Jack (Keanu Reeves) angers retired bomb squad member Howard Payne (Dennis Hopper) by foiling his attempt at taking hostages. In revenge, Payne arms a bus with a bomb that will explode if it drops below 50 miles per hour. With the help of spunky passenger Annie (Sandra Bullock), Jack and his partner Harry (Jeff Daniels) try to save the people on the bus before the bomb goes off, while also trying to figure out how Payne is monitoring them.

No since the movie from Arnold Schwarzenegger "Last Action Hero" sums it all so well in that movie . The true pure action genre is over . The page has turned as we made place to too many psychological action movies than offering simple easy popcorn entertainment . As when the 9/11 drama aired it was completely done . People today cannot get over it and give the movie sector another go by offering "real entertainment" and not look the real life drama . Is why the movie industry sucks imho today these last 15+ years . Also why Quentin Tarantino's movies are so boring lately . We knew better from him with true one liners, action scenes, sexy scenes , violence scenes ....we are far from Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill, Planet Terror, Inglorious Basterds ....

@@TennisJunkies Django well okay-ish but i prefer the original and it's sequels even some low b-movies from Italy were more funny in some aspects . Hateful Eight was boring sure we got many great actors which i'm not talking about . The story is more of a cliché from old westerns with Stewart Granger, Audi Murphy , etc... yes the reference from The Thing from Carpenter was shown but older westerns movies used that too like Rio Bravo . For me Tarantino's best movies were those before Kill Bill 2 what he made after is meh bleh . I would rather see a more than 3 hours movie from Kill Bill than two chapters separately. Besides that i know Machete in Space ( Machete 3 ) will never been made since it's a gimmick all horror movies with "in space" sucked for 85% of them . Also Danny Trejo is too old now 80yo sadly he has started his career way too late and had sadly too many silly third roles that were insignifiant tbh .

There were better action movies in the 60's and 70's than many of the 90's crap . Older movies are more mature and adult than kiddie ones made in the 90 to onwards today . The farwell true action movie from the 90's was Arnold Schwarzenegger "Last Action Hero" . It turned the page of what was the golden Hollywood era ( similar to what was Who Framed Roger Rabbit a movie that will prolly never happen anymore to see Warner Bros, Disney, etc...being together in one movie , it was a one go movie and never more because the freaking greed money )

Maybe a nice action movie but there are too many errors and mistakes . Why claiming Keanu Revees was excellent since he was a pretty unknown actor from it's time 1996 ... we are very far from The Matrix and several years later John Wick . Same goes for Sandra Bullock which her faith was similar and had many semi-action movies going as thrillers going on that time The Net . As her stupid comedies Miss Detective 1&2 was really a let down offering the same blatant jokes seen in that era like the stupid reboot from Pink Panther starring Steve Martin & Jean Reno ( Peter Sellers Pink Panther was much better tbh ) Dennis Hopper in the role of the bad guy excellent yes but sadly he had not alot screen time to my will ( similar to Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs which he was the real acting stealer and not the young Jodie Foster which imho didn't know what acting was at that time ) Speed is an okay-ish action movie but seen with an adult eye and not more the teenager or even when i was in my 20's the movie has dated badly we are very far from real action movies from the 60's and 70's for example Gone with 60 Seconds original , French Connection 1 , Bullit, Dirty Harry , etc... As for the sequel Speed 2 it was not needed and really proves not all movies needs to have a sequel or prequel nor a trilogy . Dunno why Willem Dafoe played in that movie is beyond me . There were better action movies during that era with more serious messages than this Speed movie . The mid 90's were not the greatest action movies by some real rare exceptions .

Two funny parts: Buses have ads on the sides and the back. The ad on the back of the bus said MONEY ISN'T EVERYTHING. Also, when the runaway subway car crashed through the end of the tunnel and came to lie on its side in the busy LA downtown street, Jack and Annie were passionately making out in front of the tour bus people.
