Love your videos, If only the 4 pro would hold altitude in active track, I believe it would stay where you need it to be. When tracking a motorcycle off-road, it just keeps climbing into the tree canopy instead of staying 4-5mtrs up behind you… now if only DJI could do an update to stop the 4 having a mind of its own.

Thanks for this. I’ve actually had the same exact issue tracking a bright yellow 8 foot kayak on the water. It goes higher and higher and loses the subject. Other objects seem to do better though.

Had the same issues lately trying to active track a jetski with waterskier. Would constantly go too high and lose subject. Would not stay behind or parallel or in front. Plus it doesn’t keep boat in middle so I would lose the skier outside the field of view. Hope DJI listens to your videos to bring correction.

It can only fly at 35 mph in Sport mode, and since you can't use sport mode in active track, it can't keep up with you. When it can't keep up, it tilts back a bit, thus creating lift, and that's why it keeps rising up. It seems 15 mph is a good sweet spot. I like the Mini 4 Pro, but it seems it has so much electronics packed inside that it never seems to work as advertised. I have a Mini 2 and fly it manually all the time - lots of fun and more challenging too!

@@kaarplex3 I have had a few issues tracking MTB riders. It tracks perfectly in a general direction but loses the subject if they make quick turns. The drone seemed to accelerate toward the trees in the original direction during a brief attempt to find the subject. I wasn't prepared to trust the obstacle avoidance in this case.

If you auto track: any setting work. If you fly I would use Sport. Make sure to take off from shore and that the drone returns back to home if connection is lost / low battery etc in the RTH setting.

That was interesting. I am curious to know why the drone keeps increasing altitude during track. That RTH was a bit troublesome, too. Maybe the RTH point should be set further away from the water. Perhaps with an observer to keep the landing area safe for an automated RTH.

My two cents if it matters. I think the subject being to small because of the increase in elevation and the very little perceivable movement at this point from the drone camera it drops the pin. Then it becomes a stationary subject from the drones algorithmic interpretation at this point and won't follow. Can you try positioning the drone lower or the side of the boat, that it might see the subject movement better against its background to see if it still does the same thing? Having said that, I know we want to see wide shots also to appreciate the beauty of your surroundings. Maybe an update that will make the algorithm more sensitive in this case to tiny increments or change of the subject against its background so as to prevent it from dropping that pin so quickly and think of it as a stationary background? DJI? Also, please sponsor his video while you're at it😀!

Thanks for posting this video. I've seen videos showing the Mini 4 Pro tracking cars successfully. I'm wondering if it gets confused by reflections off the water when trying to track a boat or jet ski? Cheers.

Have you changed the settings under the control tab? Maybe change the FocusTrack settings to "Vehicle" and also changing the Camera Motion to "Fast". I have not tried this to verify, if someone has please chime in.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I completely agree with you. If I would’ve taken off a quarter mile away from the water, it would be more safe 😂however this drone support precision landing, which should make it more accurate than this. The mini 3 pro that did not support precision landing was not this far off. Usually 2 meters of margin is enough. But in this case… well it was not.

Why it increases its altitude, similar thing Self experienced with my Jeep, I kept only 5 meters height it went up to 25 meter, bit scary when you have tall trees around.

Hi Mats watching this video I noticed your antennas were pointing at the M4P most of the time and I wondered if it was possible that there was a weak signal comming off the antennas causing the loss of tracking... would repositioning the antennas at 90 degrees to the line of sight improve tracking strength? I guess you must be very aware that testing is just another excuse to get out and do more flying lol

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I really appreciate it. However, unfortunately the connection to the remote has nothing to do with active track. The only way for the drone to actually track the location of the remote is to use the RC pro, that is only compatible with Mini 3 pro. 😳 Thanks again.

Start up several meters from the waterline as the GPS is inaccurate with some meters now and then. A narrow boat bridge is not safe. What does the DJI system manual say, if it exists for that tracking? Why not fly manual using skills?

Why don't you try tracking by zooming 2x ! I think tracking will work better! Mavic air 2 used to follow better the moving target, by zooming it! Carry on your good videos!

Realistically, you’re not going to follow your boat 10 or 15 minutes. You’re just going to use itfor 10 15 seconds clip to get an overview… what I am curious about is what happens if you launch it from a ferry, to include a 7-10 second clip to add to your travel video. I don’t know how that ferries go, but presume the Mini Pro would be able keep up with it and you could land it back on the ferry

Mini 3 pro tracked my wakeboard boat MUCH better. It tracks too high and is just poor footage if it can even keep up. Useless. Wish I hadn't "upgraded"

If they let this thing track at full speed it will cut into their avata 2 sales as that's made to track things and have full camera movement while fpv following someone, way more suited to the shots you want. That said, I'm not a fan of DJI, they artificially limit so many things across their products, yawn.
