I got my first colouring book today. Started colouring, remembered that my colouring skills are about 10% of my age (I'm nearly 50 and I still colour like a five-year-old, although I can now stay inside the lines) and went searching around online. Found your amazing videos!! I would honestly watch a completely unedited and non-speed video of you colouring this drawing (or any drawing). You are truly inspirational. I will never be artistic, but the amazing books that now exist plus tutorials such as yours mean that I might produce some things that I really love. Thank you for taking the time to make the videos. My credit card may get over-worked now, but I'm hugely looking forward to doing more colouring and trying different techniques that I've already learned from watching you. (Just an aside, as a Brit I find it highly amusing that colouring gets underlined as an incorrect word :))

@renlish9 жыл бұрын
+pesto12601 Wow. Totally unnecessary snark. I've actually received these pencils as a gift and whilst I can waste them just playing around until I learn how to use them eventually, getting some tips from someone who understands them is actually helpful. I don't think there's anyone here who thinks they can gain years of knowledge and practice from one tutorial.
@PetaHewitt9 жыл бұрын
+Renlish Thanks guys. I will be uploading a video on how I use Derwent Inktense pencils but not until after Christmas as I'm a bit busy at the moment. (On holidays and then straight back to my job over Christmas. Look out for one possibly before the New Year or soon after.

Your work is always amazing! Can't wait to see your video on how you use the Inktense pencils. One question...do you already have some color in the Aquabrush? It looks like color is appearing with just the brush without pencil being colored first on some of the grey/black swirls. Hope that question makes sense! Thank you!
@purva14229 жыл бұрын
+Carla O When she doesn't colour before hand she is actually picking colour off from the pencil and then applying it with the brush. It just gives more control!

Hi Peta, do you think if I used the Prismacolor watercolor pencil set with the Kuretaki aquabrush that I'd get a similar result???
@dawnlouiseh8 жыл бұрын
Hi, no as prismatic colours are not water soluble. You can fill a brush with odourless mineral oil, like gamasol or some use baby oil and a cotton bud, q tip. Hope that helps. Watch petas tutorials they will help x
@lilyslife53239 жыл бұрын
Hi, what kid of brush are you using? Is it a water filled brush of some sort? Beautiful work. I am glad I found you. :)
@PetaHewitt9 жыл бұрын
+Shani Roberts yes, it is a water brush that you can refill with water in the barrel, made by Kuretake.

@kristineharkin17248 жыл бұрын
Hi what colours where you using on the leaves
@ct110020009 жыл бұрын
Does the coloring book have thick pages? The water didn't seem to warp and tear the paper.
@PetaHewitt9 жыл бұрын
+Christina T. The paper is not watercolour paper so it has no sizing (which would normally limit warping) so there is some buckling as the paper expands when wet and then settles down again. It is left with permanent gentle ripples through it but this does not bother me at all. (I actually like it as it gives the book more character to me.)
@muskndusk9 жыл бұрын

Do you find that the inktense pencils go a long way? I want to make sure they last before forking over the money, lol.
@purva14229 жыл бұрын
For the pencils, do you find you have to sharpen them often or are they really difficult to sharpen and keep sharpened. I want to buy a set of the Inktense pencils but I'm scared that I might run out of them really fast because I have to keep sharpening them.
@purva14229 жыл бұрын
Wait what? haha, I'm so lost. I've never used pencils as an art medium (more of a painter) so I'm trying to learn! Is that a thing? Do you not sharpen the pencils? I'm confused
@alistewart34519 жыл бұрын
+Purva Mehta Ignore Pesto. I'm thinking that the PEST part of his handle gives us a good idea of his intentions. (Maybe Trollo was taken?) Get yourself a small set of Inktense pencils, or a few from open stock if you can find them. Test them out and see how you like them. I don't find that they are used up quickly, especially if you lift color with a brush as Peta is doing here.
@renlish9 жыл бұрын
+Purva Mehta The pigment is soft on these, so yes, they wear down (as I've found while playing with them) very quickly. They're not regular pencils, they are ink pigments and not meant to be used as straight pencils to colour.
@purva14229 жыл бұрын
Yeah that makes sense! Can you sharpen them when they wear down? Is there a special thing to do or something? Renlish

+Haya Melhem I have 51 colours out of the range... the 36 set and the rest I've chosen as i needed them from open stock. Colours that did not come with the 36 set that I use a lot of are: sicilian yellow, dusky purple, dark purple-> both these for shadows, oak and payne's grey.
