No matter what path you take as long as you make it to the table for the game, that’s a win!!!

Loved this. I really connected with the limited time issue. i yearn for the days when I was a kid and had every lunch hour, all weekend, all holidays, and 3 months of no school to dedicate to d&d.

When I think of how much time I wasted in the past… 😵💫 but of course I didn’t have the ideas and experience I have now (I just had reflexes and energy and time 🤣) - the way life works is something else lol. 😂🏴☠️🍻

Pile of opportunity terrain edition ft. Rowan and XPS foam. Yep, this one is going into the favorite videos folder! When it comes to walls (or other concrete, rocky large terrain) I picked up a real cool idea some time ago from a channel called Midwinter Minis. Instead of using that pink XPS you can use plain ol' styrofoam (I guess the correct name is EPS). Those plain white bits used for packaging stuff like computers you get everywhere that fall apart into a million snowflakes that end up everywhere but especially on your cat... So Rowan beware. And the added perk is that if you cut it or kinda pick on it a bit you get a nice (but shallow) texture as is. Now, what you need to do to keep it from crumbling everywhere and to allow paint to stick to it you mix equal amounts of water, white glue, some cheap craft paint (black works best for this) and flour. Add a bit of salt in it as well as it's meant to keep any bacteria from developing in it (because of the flour I guess) although I think glue and the paint would take care of it as well. I would also add some small rocks or sand or even baking powder and just go to town on the styrofoam bits. When it dries it has this light grey color that is pretty hard and feels almost like plastic. You can easily paint over it, dry brush it or use sponge to give it blotches of rock/concrete-like color and texture or stuff like moss. And the coating should even protect it from spray propellants so you can use spray paints on it. Oh and those Lego bits, huge win if you ask me. Thanks for the doughnuts! 😁

Oh right on, I always get rid of styrofoam cause it’s a nightmare to clean up BUT that said I have saved a couple pieces that are perfect stairs, now I know how to treat em! lol Rowan beware 🤙🍻

I have yet to find the foam in retail stores here in Maine. In a pinch, your speed terrain build came out well. The end result was that your new players (I think you said that in an earlier video) had fun. Ultimately, in time, you can upgrade the decor if you need to reuse those items

You may be able to find the thin foamboard at a dollar store.

Yeah, if they have fun it really doesn’t matter too much. If course they’d probably have more fun with super awesome terrain and interactive lighting and fog fx 😂🍻 I think @blackmagiccraft has an online store that sells xps in various sizes

Another Saturday morning and I am supposed to be getting my news together for the top of the hour. Ok I'm taking a break. I do that too. LOL. That is why I love long songs. One of my last D and D games we had all sorts of stuff to represent tables and a match stick that represented a war dog. Sometimes mixing up a few things makes a game that much more fun. The group did the very best to keep that dog alive. Yes he was a war dog, but. as in many movies I have watched. I don't care how many people die. The dog must survive. Thanks for my Saturday morning break. Keep on keeping on.

Nice work! That stuff looks great and congrats on getting it all done in time for the game! We haven't played through all of the actual RoSD scenarios (we kind of took the rules as a starting point and ran off in our own direction), but looking through them I noticed the measurements of the rooms are pretty huge. Those walls are an accomplishment! Also- Home Depot in CA does carry the 4'x8' XPS foam sheets now- but I believe you're right in that there was a time when they didn't, or at least I couldn't find it for a good while.
@tabletopalchemyАй бұрын
No way, they have them now?! Well dang lol. That’s cool I’d like to get some different thicknesses. Re the scenarios, we’re playing out of the Modiphius book which collected a couple of supplements and re ordered the missions, so the next mission we play will be the convent one from the og rule book. But yeah I thought 18” square rooms was huge but it actually works insofar as creating a similar feel to the exterior maps. One thing we found was the doorways presented a significant challenge to the players because they function as strategic bottlenecks lol 🐉🍻

Think of this mixing of materials and the whole exercise as rapid prototyping. Sure, this is not the ideal situation, but it gets the job done and provides concept work for future builds.
