Super cool paint scheme! Love how they turned out. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I've seen some mecha painted with Turbo Dork that look pretty awesome. I wonder if it is better on large flat areas... 🤔

I’ve gotten some comments on how to use the dork paint better lol so I think yes there are techniques to get much better results 🍻
@andrewamann2821Күн бұрын
Some advice from someone who's been playing with color shift and interference paints for a while: 1. You're going to get your most striking results by laying this stuff down over a dark, glossy coat. The reason for this boils down to physics. The inherent mechanism for how these work depends on the light reflecting off of the treated mica flakes, and not being overwhelmed by the light reflected back through the layers of paint. 2. Because of the reflection issue, the other bit you need to worry about is the angle of incidence, i.e. the flakes need to be deposited as flatly as possible, hence the reason for a high-gloss undercoat. Your best shot to accomplish this is kinda counterintuitive, though. You're gonna wanna work kinda dry, and work gradual. If you're adding anything to thin the paint, use a high-gloss additive, such as gloss varnish, or actual acrylic ink, and add it in small volumes. You're basically trying to drybrush the features you want to have the effect, and it's gonna take a few passes before you really start to see results, since you're basically trying to paint with a metallic medium. If you're going to add pigment, go one of three ways: black, complimentary (the hue opposite on the color wheel...), or hue-matched, depending on your desired effect. Stick to single-pigment inks to achieve this, as it will save you a lot of headache in troubleshooting later.

Sharp new look and a sharp new paint job, I love it. The test model gives me very strong jRPG vibes really reminiscent of some of the monsters you'd fight against in such games. Also, there was no scorn, I am the master of overloading paintbrushes, trust me! And who can resist a paint called "Laserface"? I mean, we are only human, most of the time.

On your test piece, try undercoating with gloss black, then airbrush on several coats of the color shift paint, blowing straight air to dry the layers before applying the next. The effect builds through multiple layers. Some colors need only 3 - 4 coats while some require several more. Airbrushing really speeds up the process, and keeps the layers more consistent.
@tabletopalchemy2 күн бұрын
Ah gross black! And someone else mentioned airbrushing too so I will try that, thanks!
@rustedbeetle2 күн бұрын
@tabletopalchemy the shifting paint is translucent. The gloss will reflect light back through the paint. A matte black tends to arrest the light so you only get top reflection.

I'd be curious to see laserface test over zenithal priming, or even a textured 3d printed swatch card with white, greys to black up top and a limited color palette on bottom. with a detail texture to test out how it works into recesses. maybe thinning and blending each swatch at the edges to really see what can be done with it. But that sounds like it would use up a whole bottle just trying it out.
@tabletopalchemy2 күн бұрын
It definitely needs some more tests and with an airbrush too I think. Future plans! 🍻

Dude!! You had me at voice over. I love watching and listening to pros at work. Even if I do it on a daily basis. Mainly commercials and on air. I do love hearing a pro. She has a hell of a nice set of pipes. Her voice was perfect for the role. Not a lot of people know the work involved in doing any type of voice work or even acting. Having a home studio is a plus. What recording software are you all using for the voice work? Personally I use adobe audition. I love what I can do with it. From editing out inhales to an odd tick or two. This video started my day out right.

I would LOVE to do voice acting! Doing line readings looks like so much fun! Editing the tracks together and picking your favorite readings looks like fun too! I love the freedom you get with voice-over/acting to just "chop and screw" them in any order that sounds good. Mixing different takes and such and until you get the *one perfect edit* 😁 Love these deep-dives into the bts of filmmaking! You could make her voice work for both but it would require playing with the audio a bit, I'm sure some effect would do the trick Of course my Hope is a lie - we all lie to ourselves in some capacity 😉

Very cool on your process. As to Laura possibly doing both...Why not use something 'simple' like Audacity to alter the 'evil voice'? As one who does almost all the voices in my ASMR podcast, changing timber, speed, etc, is my go-to for altering voices, sufficient enough that listeners can differentiate the characters (more so the male voices).
