Yes it is. In my university i took STEM because it teaches calculus and drafting. Although drafting became an elective for SHS STEM students during second sem of grade 12 since youll be planning to take architecture / civil eng./ mechanical etc. If youre taking other strands such as FINE ARTS, GAS, ABM, and HUMMS our school will give the student classes to take during the summer (calc drafting ) to assure that the student is ready for architecture school. P.S. i am studying B.L.A ( bachelors of landscape architecture) in University of San Carlos ^-^

This is based in my experience, I use mechanical pencil (for the initial draft) to avoid black smudges, the paper is really neat compared when I'm using a normal pencil. Also it's convenient since you don't need to sharpen it from time to time and the line thickness is consistent when you use it.

Here's an idea: total freehand scaled drawing. Is it just a trend that drafting with instruments is the thing for plate drawing? There's cad for that, but we do freehand scaled drawings in practice. Imagine the time freed for exploring a ton more ideas.

Sorry to butt in but I can kind of shed in some light here. STEM is the "direct" course to Architecture as for my experience (idk if this applies to other schools but I'm from DLSU). I'm an archi freshie and based sa other classmates ko na nag Arts and Design during SHS, they had to take special classes like maths and science to "catch up" on the subjects taught during STEM SHS so medyo naging irregular students sila kasi they had to take classes during their free schedules and summer~

In my case STEM wasnt effective in touching the subject of architecture. I didnt even touch it. I'd recommend you to take arts and design track because my classmates who were in it had greater experience when it comes to rendering and other things. In our university, STEM was more focused on Science and Math.
