I’m abt 1:45 in- But I’d like to imagine that Betty Boop would still end up going from small time clubs and gigs to her more stage-like performances and plays Whereas Melody Mae expanded on the club scene, getting more high end and luxurious club ‘gigs’ to perform at While Betty Boop and Melody Mae both debuted at small clubs and where ever a small stage and some listeners could be, Betty would become a ‘movie-star’ so to speak and took on more play/theatre-like singing roles And Melody stayed with being a singing star, sticking to those luxurious club performances and to have her voice broadcasted across radios everywhere, while Betty’s fame came from the tv’s she was casted to everywhere And so that’s my “head canon” for why we never saw MelodyMae in the irl original cartoons, because she was a radio star :> (Edit: I also like how Betty’s color palette is more warm-toned while Melody’s is cool-toned, it definitely gets their singing tones/vibes across too)

I grew up in the town Ma Rainey was from. Her home was a museum for a little while when I was a child but sadly is now left to deteriorate. It seems it is not part of the historical register of the city and therefore not given funds to be kept up which I think is a disservice to the rich african american history of the city.

Thank you for Melody Mae as well as the correct history on Betty Boop’s convoluted origins. Too many people on social media were getting it wrong and we’re belligerently and willfully ignorant about her actual creation. I think Melody Mae has the potential to stand on her own and I’d love to see you do more with her since Betty Boop is copyrighted and owned by another entity. She honors Baby Esther’s ties to Betty without erasing the actual history.

As much as I love learning history I can't say it isn't extremely disappointing finding out that a character I loved seeing as black growing up and thinking she was based on a beautiful black woman was never meant to be black in the first place. We can make as many characters to make up for it but that doesn't change that these beautiful people died without getting the credit they deserved when it mattered to them 😞

Thank you for making this wonderful character! She's gorgeous. A lot of people do get Betty Boop's origins completely confused. Many don't know that Betty used to be a full blown dog (Bimbo's girlfriend) before they changed her design into a human since the character became so popular.
