That's really what I didn't expect to see in this video, so it's Cheburashka (a character on flocked stickers). He is the hero of the Soviet cartoon, which is popular in the post-Soviet states and Japan.

A second doll of Betty boop would be cool. See your Billy Boop would be great to see. Really appreciate your wording about understanding the frustrations of African-American voices.

OMGGGGG you have no idea how excited I am for this video One of my hyper-fixations was/is the Fleischer Brothers Studio/Out Of The InkWell Studios. Anyways- whenever Betty Boop comes up, her ‘backstory’ always follows in suit and nobody ever gets it right 😭 so many big publishing sites and outlets post wrong information abt her without even consulting the relatives of the original Fleischer brothers. Their grandkids/great grandkids had to email so many outlets and ask them to take down their original articles because it was spreading misinformation. Betty Boop wasn’t inspired by one person in particular, but rather a livelihood and culture. She was inspired by jazz, and all types of scat singers. Most of all she was used to represent the type of people that the Fleischer Brothers (and their employees) were, 1st and 2nd generation immigrants. She was used in countless cartoons to portray the life they lived in New York, which of course came with great inspiration from the Jazz community. She can be portrayed white, black, or any skin color and it’ll always be correct. She’s like Hello Kitty in a way, if anyone gets that reference. She isn’t just a character, or just one person, she is a community, a culture, and a representation of livelihood.

That same principle can also apply to Barbie. Barbie can literally be anything and anyone, regardless of race or body type.

The thing that really drives me crazy about this entire thing is that you can't find any reliable information on Baby Esther that isn't related to betty boop in some way, like she was apperently the highest paid child star of the time but the only way I can learn about her is through a cartoon that didn't even last for an entire decade

I think it's important to state that Black people were not just PART of the Jazz community, they WERE the Jazz community and had been for a long time before white people started profiteering off their culture. Betty Boop would absolutely not exist without Black American culture, with particular regard to Black women - a great many of whom were queer, btw. With that being said, I LOVE Billie Bop, and I think taking inspiration from Bebop artists of the era would be extremely appropriate. Please note that I say all of this as a white person who's only claim to speak about this is a long-running interest in Black American music of the early 20th Century and how it has shaped nearly everything about modern 'Western' culture - take what I say with a pinch of thoughtfulness and research. But seriously, the entire world has been irrevocably changed, in the best possible way, by Black artists and the incredible collaborative community event that was and is Black art

It's sooo satisfying watching you use that teeny tiny brush on the face, lips, eyes, etc! So intricate!! I loved Betty as a kid, and we had a few of those half hour VHS tapes of her cartoons, my favourite being Swat that fly, Poor Cinderella, and that one where Grampy helps clean her house! So fun and nostalgic! 🥹❤😊

A couple of thoughts on the crafting... Betty Boop has no neck. That's the major "off-model" thing for me. I wonder how it would look with the head shoved down further? Also, have you tried finishing off your eye repaints with UV resin? It sort of dribbles on like superglue, then cures with a UV light to be hard and shiny like glass. Really makes eyes look great.

I would prefer a separate Billy boop. Let her be her own character instead of rebranding the old one. Maybe next time you could try rerooting the hair? It almost always looks better than glued on yarn hair.
