I put a cord through there for some work to load for heavy pressure.

I've noticed that some knappers will pre-load the piece but you don't. Is that just a preference for feel or... What's your 2 cents on the technique?

With this tool I hitch is soft if I preloaded I’d crush the edge unless I ground it, and the drawback w horn flakers on ground edges is that I’d need a broader tip or the tool would sink or fail. And a broad horn tool would take a big bite out of the edge because it’s ground.
