No I don't agree (4:55). It seems very fast and it IS very fast. It just covers a smaller distance, which makes it look dynamic/balistic. Sure how you move during a strike adds to the effect, but there still is alot of speed there. PS. the second punch contracted slower, this adds speed to the appearance of the punch. Won't explain that.

The Taiji Classics tell us, over and over again, that we never use strength or speed to defend ourselves, otherwise it is not Taiji. Yet in these demonstrations, strength and speed are what you use every time. So how can you call what you are doing Taiji?

"Different classics"?!!!! Which ones?
@lindltailor5 жыл бұрын
Jeffrey Robbins not everyone refers to the Li I Yu published works as “the classics”. Only the Yang and Wu (Hao) Styles, as well as the adherents of Wudang tradition. These however are derivative lineages of Taijiquan formed much later than when the poems were written, thus the poems were not written about Taijiquan as a martial art but of Taiji philosophy and its precursor Yin Yang philosophy. People tend to confuse and conflate all three, because they equate Taiji with Taijiquan. Taijiquan is not a scholarly endeavor, it is gongfu training. The falsehood you should not ever use strength, speed or external skill is farcical mythology, perpetuated by those too weak to suffer training in marital arts

I would still really like to know: To which “different classics” do you refer? I’d like to read them. Thanks.@@lindltailor

Sure what we want to do is practice a so called art that learns to harmonize then walk around thinking constantly that anyone could be your enemy. Do we study harmony to think that every moment something may happen or enjoy the process and have less stress.

@@Purwapada i mean why martial arts technics are not involved in MMA ?
@Purwapada5 жыл бұрын
. @@michaelsoza4183 Because MMA is a useful sport. It is good, but people have forgotten it's true purpose: to find the 'best' methods from martial arts. Although the idea itself is flawed, it is the closest people can get to testing martial arts to full power. The reason martial arts such as BJJ, boxing and Muay Thai are 'the best' (only in terms of MMA) is because they can be adapted to be non 'lethal'. boxing: for example uses gloves, with an entire focus on hitting and not being hit; therefore a boxer can use full force and have a low chance of causing serious injury, because of it's limitations on itself, and so is the same for all martial arts 'proven' by MMA - because they work 'best' within that environment - as a sport. Taiji cannot be used at their 'full effective force' and have the same level of utility because it's focus is to immediately damage the opponent, so there is no spectrum for a pain compliance as within BJJ where the person can tap out before they suffocate, so the focus works best within a sport environment. - Also many MMA fighters ar very arrogant, and stick to the standard: BJJ, Boxing & Muay Thai, and are not willing to try something new (and so limit themselves). - Taijiquan 'practical method' is not very well known outside tai chi practitioners, and Taiji is not appropriate for MMA for the reasons above. hope this makes sense :)
