I so glad you published this! This is really important! I am nowhere as good as you but I did yi chuan and got kind of good at that and one day I was doing push hands/sticking hands for 2.5 hours straight and was doing a turn with my best friend. I was holding in all that time all the energy that everyone put on me and was like a coiled spring and I was so tired I accidentally let out a little bit and almost killed my friend. And that was just on accident. After that I feel like I never want to fight again, it's too easy to hurt and to kill. I feel like I understood what you said and you spoke to my experience. You are a great teacher.

Years ago..i was a practitioner of wing chun.. Tai Chi and Muay Thai..my sifu taught each system to us I was five years in part of the elite Fighters. When my wife decided to get a divorce..so I moved out with my brother whom had a bad drinking and drug problem..long story short..i begain to use drugs and alcohol..i quit going to class but always knew I needed to go back..one day after some heavy drinking and clubing around town.a group of people where in the parking lot one called me over and being full of myself I went..he hit me out a of the blue..instantly I went into my wing chun fight stance when another guy came around to my left side I tui ma.."turn stance" and kick ..to the knee..it was devastating..he collapse in shear pain..i broke his knee backwards the force also shattered his anckle..at that moment I turned to destroy the man who hit me only to see him run in complete fear of me ..all I could hear was the agony of this man screaming for dear life broken leg broken ankle broken spirit broken.. it was at that moment that I realized I had to go back I had to stop what I was doing I'd become a demon in my martial art I went back to finish I haven't been in a fight since nor do I wish to ever be in a fight again I'm not bragging no not at all in fact I feel extremely saddened by the events of that night by breaking him I broke myself the enemy is just a reflection of yourself remember that..

Ethics is fundamental. I knew a student of a Kung Fu School in London in the 90s who accompanied his teacher, along with some other students, to help him "collect a debt". Unfortunately, the debt collection ended up with someone being killed. He told me he felt "obliged" to help his teacher and even tried to stop things getting out of hand, but the court found him guilty of aiding and abetting a murder. He was given a 12-year prison sentence. He was about 25 years old at the time and father to a young child. The event devastated his life. There were prior warnings that the teacher was not trustworthy, but when we are young sometimes we can make the mistake of misplacing our loyalty and trust. This is a true story, but I can't reveal names or specific details.

This is probably the most important lesson any person could learn. The human body is very fragile. I have been very fortunate to have teachers that always put the safety of their students first. They have also insisted that we are extremely careful using what we have learned.

But it's a well learned lesson and after a point one learns compassion or acceptance. One backs off, and says I will no longer fight you or the other says, wow, that was great you've taught me.

Not only the disciple would harm the teacher, he/she may harm anyone including self. That's because of super long history of most human being on earth who's destructive-functional gene was "inserted/modified" in a unnatural way that the "balance" function of the destructive gene was not functional. Hence the creative culture of humanity is always naturally regulated, while the destructive one is always the problem in history and have to consciously regulated or programed to maintain a "healthy" human civilization. Not only chinese, almost all human of earth with the problematic gene included.
