Back in high school I read the title of this movie and that my favorite director made it. And couldn’t find out anything more about it. Glad to finally see this almost 20 years later.

i want this guy to give tours around my yard...stopping at places i had great ideas, places where i got hurt, places where i got laid, places where i felt great joy or sorrow...all of it.

I would love to talk to Levitch about my experience. You see, I (like many of you) have seen New York in countless films. As a movie lover (from Europe) I dreamed about one day going to NY. I finally did in 2013. It was one of the biggest disappointments of my life. It is the loneliest, cruelest, ugliest , dirtiest, most depressing fake shithole I have ever seen. Maybe shithole is too insulting, but I'm just expressing my feelings. It was so terrible that I want to go back almost. I need to see it again. Not because I doubt what I saw, but just to witness this sadness again. So many people so close together yet so far apart. Imagine a subway full of people jammed tight together yet each in their own worlds far far away in another galaxy. The buildings are fascinating, they're ugly yet beautiful. They hold this mystery like on a movie set. Surreal. While walking passing by these gigantic old multi million dollar apartments I wanted to see who really lives there? It's almost as they are empty, no one lives there. It's a facade. Central Park, wow what a strange place. Again it felt fake. The energy there I cannot describe. Times Square? My God, all that fake blinding blue light showing ads and brands. Maybe in another time it was nice, but now these flickering blue lights are ruining it. Tribeca was also surreal, again a movie set. I saw no people in some streets of Tribeca. Just one guy, me, walking down this huge street, no one else wtf? Really odd. Not a single piece of dirt on the ground! It was spotless! Compare that with the hostel I stayed 2 nights in Sheepshead Bay, my god! I had never seen so much trash piled up on the street! It was dark, dirty, just terrible. I visited the shelter for homeless. Lord Jesus, how terrible these people live there, yet how wonderful that there even is a shelter. The good? The hostel where I stayed in in Bed-Stuy. All these people from all over the world passing through. Musicians, artists, dreamers. So many wonderful beings. Typical that they were mostly artists. They always have such kindness. Specially when they are broke and or starting out. Also the artists performing in the subway stations. I was in awe of some of them. I couldn't believe they were not huge famous stars. I was in NY for 8 months. Clearly I thought it was horrible, but horror still contains beauty in it. It was still magical. Next time I go back I hope to meet Levitch see what he says about my experience.

"Methinks ye doth protesteth..." It's the "loneliest, cruelest, ugliest , dirtiest, most depressing fake shithole" yet you stayed on for 8 months? I propose an alternative take...that of "othering"...you're othering a city, it seems, as a psychological projection of your own difficult experience either in life or of your time there and NYC's failure to live up to your expectations or dreams, which after all, have nothing to do with the place you're in physically, but instead emanate entirely from within yourself. You will encounter disappointment no matter where you are until you reckon with your own demons.

i didn't see the twins as being brotherly "rivals" but a symbol of unity while keeping your individuality. A symbol of greatness when mankind stands by one another, because if it were only one tower, it would look pretty underwhelming.
