its not! This engine is one of the new generation. You dont need to drive 30Mm or more to get a longer life. if you drive like this guy, the chamber gets a glass surface (sorry im from germany, i dont know, what the exactly word is for that.) importander is it to drive 10-15 min to get hot oil.

Actually breaking engines in harder makes the seals stronger and makes it run more reliably imo.. not to mention these engines are pre- broken in and tested from the factory

Yes, running in is very important in the first thousand of kilometres otherwise engine life will reduce a lot, anybody say anything. My brother-in-law has the same car, its starting to became agile after 1000 km. Certainly, the engine was very strong in the first time, but you can feel when its sarting to running in, and ready to fight with physics..

that doesn't matter engine tolerances today are so engine doesn't need break in, just good warm up before you hit it hard.

Don't worry about the 300 km not broken in problem. It's a BMW. It's German Autobahn. You can't simply drive 100 km/h for a decade to break in the car.

the M mode is a bit useless in the M50d, because its a a diesel and they dont need high revs to be faster. At 1:10 you can see that the car would climb faster up to 260 when he would shift in the 8th gear ;)

Very long time ago now but I have to ask. Do you mean Sport mode when you wrote M Mode? Because I have had a E53 which felt the same way. Sport is no difference. Now I have a E70 M40d Xdrive and it is the same. Sport makes no difference. Just step on the pedal and let the engine do its thing

all this trolls think they are in the 60' when a new car needed it's engine to be "matured" around 3000(depending by the brand) kms before you could do hi revs without damaging it. If they(BMW) didn't specified that you must not drive it like this before your first inspection or first "X" kms then the engine is already matured.

This engine has 3 turbos so forgot about your traditional diesel unless you have driven it. It pulls just as hard above 4000rpm whereas normal diesel is shit.

why don't you run-in the engine first, it has just run 313 km and you pull it to the maximum. normally that's not good for the engine. drive the engine preventive until about 2000 km first.

Wie ich sehe ist es hier wie mit jedem BMW, den ich kennenlernen durfte. Es ist neu bei vielleicht 3/4 seines Potentials, wenns hinkommt. So zäh und unwillig wie er dreht. Eigentlich werden die alle erst nach einigen 1000 Kilometer erst so richtig gut. Ist das nur ein subjektiver Eindruck, bilde ich mir das alles nur ein? Weil das was ich hier sehe hätte ein gut eingefahrener 30d nicht schlechter machen können.

The gearbox is too short... a remaped 35d wouldn't be much slower on acceleration and would totally destroy it on top speed!
