Speed of Sound

NASA astronaut Scott Kelly and Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko blasted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on March 27, 2015. With a successful landing 340 days later on March 1, 2016, the pair completed one of the most ambitious missions in the history of the International Space Station and opened a new chapter in human exploration.
During their record-setting mission, nearly 400 investigations were conducted that advance NASA’s mission to reach new heights, reveal the unknown, and benefit all of humanity. Kelly and Kornienko participated in dozens of studies to provide new insights into how the human body adjusts to weightlessness, isolation, radiation and the stress of long-duration spaceflight, which will include the Journey to Mars. Kelly’s twin brother, former NASA astronaut Mark Kelly, participated in parallel twin studies on Earth to help scientists compare the effects on the body and mind in space.
The completion of the one-year mission and its studies will help guide the next steps in planning for long-duration deep space missions that will be necessary as humans move farther into the solar system. Kelly and Kornienko’s mission will inform future decisions and planning for other long-duration missions, whether they are aboard the space station, a deep space habitat in lunar orbit, or a mission to Mars.

Everything about what he did here - how he exposed himself, how he communicated the experience, the feelings about this whole stunning journey - is just remarkable to me. This entire mission is all so incredible, these men and women constantly orbiting the earth while we fret at work, the endless conference calls, the earth-bound dithering. Caught a beautiful passage tonight of the ISS over the Philadelphia skyline - crystal clear, the totality of this almost unimaginable technology all on beautiful display here. It is to Commander Kelly that I owe that interest and fascination. He just totally laid himself out there, and those of us who cared about his endeavors got to see the all of it. A true voyager, in the most classic and ancient sense of the term. Merci! is all I can say, Merci!

340 days in space, and it took the Mars rovers 250-290 days to get to Mars. So I'm almost certain this man mission to mars is possible. Scott looks physically healthy, but I believe a more psychological problem may arise, hopefully not.

Derpy Hooves They been sending probes of course to test Mar's atmosphere and everything else that would be a problem on the voyage there. That's always been NASA from day one, trial and error.

Михаил Ы Yes I read somewhere about that as well. NASA was also paying people to sleep/lay in bed for 70 days. so it all connects to this new system. I also came across something called the EMDrive. If they can repeat the results, this will be used as a propulsion in the vacuum of space for sure. Either way, these are exciting times. But its sad how some people think we are incapable of such advancement.
