On October 16, 2015, NASA astronaut Scott Kelly became the new record holder for most time in space by an American astronaut. He broke fellow astronaut Mike Fincke’s mark of 382 days, and will extend that record well beyond 500 days by the end of his yearlong mission.
Kelly and Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko are spending a year aboard the International Space Station, testing the limits of human research, space exploration and the human spirit.

Keep making awesome stuff like this! Keep focusing on the science of space exploration and don't worry about petty online comments because we've got your back on this sort of thing. Just today I was looking at some of Commander Kelly's photos on Instagram and though to myself, "Man... Scott Kelly is getting a whole lot better at taking pictures of earth. It's like he's got in the groove now and knows what to look for." I really like the idea that the longer a person stays up on station the sharper their space skills get. He knows what to look for and is getting better at capturing the beauty of earth for us. This video got me more excited about the science we're doing on the ISS!!

+SmarterEveryDay Either you are paid to push mainstream psuedo science on your channel or you are a victim of the propaganda. NASA did not go to the moon, space is a fantasy just like the spinning ball Earth model. Your Coriolis effect video was pure nonsense. If you were a real scientist you would question and verify, rather than accept the ridiculous and religious scientism dogma of unproven theories that we all have been indoctrinated with.

@MatrixDecode
@MatrixDecode 8 жыл бұрын
Afrobomination It´s provably flat. There is no measurable curvature anywhere. You can do experiments across water to prove this. Water always levels out, the salt flats of Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia prove this. The horizon is always flat and keeps rising to eye level at high altitude which would not happen on a sphere. Planes do not constantly adjust their nose down to compensate for curvature.There are many more proofs for a flat earth whereas there are NO proofs for a spinning ball. Research it and discover how we have been lied to, especially by NASA with their fake images and missions.

+dunarch Since the 50's we've been able to bounce signals off the ionosphere to send signals to the other side of the planet. Have you heard of the Transatlantic Communication Cable? Look it up. Satellites are unnecessary, we have Earth-based technology that allow us to send signals world-wide without the use of satellites. Even cell phones won't work unless local cell phone towers triangulate your exact location - this is all done without GPS.

I was wondering. Where in space does the space station orbit, in relation to satellites? Is it further out in space, or closer in? I was just curious to know how close the closest satellites fly to the station. And whether satellites can be seen from the station, as there never seems to be any shots of them, during space walks etc.
@MrAirpumpkin
@MrAirpumpkin 8 жыл бұрын
+Brio Jaxen (BJax) Extreme distances (in the visual sense) separate most man made orbiting objects as a matter of safety. A collision in space can generate a dangerous field of high velocity debris which then may collide with other objects generating more debris that is also why they are crazy careful about visiting ships docking with the iss if you watch a docking in real time you'd see they do it at crazy slow speeds... well slow relative to each other... As for orbits the iss is ~249 miles up relatively safe inside the earths magnetosphere. satellites meanwhile are all over the place some even use the iss as a jumping off point, but a lot of the ones with a tangible effect on your day to day like satellite TV and GPS are in geosynchronous orbits ~26,199mi up one doesn't simply look out the window on the iss and see these

@MrAirpumpkin
@MrAirpumpkin 8 жыл бұрын
The ISS is closer than hubble. Hubble was placed about as high as the shuttle could go which in turn limited cargo capacity. of course even now there are numerous innovative cubesats slowly tumbling towards earth, but the ISS is probably the closest you can actually see (it helps also being the largest man made object in space)

Again, I don't believe everything I am told. I research everything and I realized that there is no absolute truth in anything so that's why scientific observations are there to at least allow humans to understand. As a general rule, conspiracy theorists tend to disregard any information that doesn't agree with the opinions they already have. That position, from its outset, it literally the exact opposite of critical thinking. A simple litmus test to check this, is to ask any given conspiracy theorists, what information if any were it provided, would change their mind on a given subject; if their answer to that question is "nothing", then they can not possibly be engaged in critical thinking, because they are being deliberately closed minded. I agree with the premise that people should question everything. But the problem with conspiracy theorists is that they simply do not question the very conspiracies they believe. This is the very mechanism by which conspiracy theories become self-reinforcing. Any facts that might disprove what a conspiracy theorist believes, even when provided from multiple and independently verifiable sources; are dismissed without analysis as being part of the "conspiracy". This process inevitably results in conspiracy theorists only accepting their "facts" from other conspiratorial sources; once these "facts" are accepted, they are then regarded as being exempt from critical analysis, and the cycle is then locked into circular reasoning ad nauseam...
@nottiredofwinning3736
@nottiredofwinning3736 8 жыл бұрын
+DrivenMind Lol, you just described yourself. It is you who is disregarding information. You are disregarding the countless examples of water bubbles zig zagging upwards in many ISS videos (Cupola First Light at the 2 minute mark is an example). You completely ignore the Van Allen belts, the Upper Thermosphere, and the countless hazards in space from which an aluminum tube cannot protect humans. People don't believe NASA because they've come across information they CAN'T ignore. No one embraces the idea that NASA if a fraud first, then look for evidence to support that idea. It's the other way around, everyone who doesn't believe in NASA was once like you, until they researched it.

@tybateignfield2113
@tybateignfield2113 8 жыл бұрын
+Bartolomeo Vanzetti The amount of time the astronauts spent within the Van Allen belts can be disregarded in terms of health risk. The van allen belts aren't a continuous radioactive band, they have peaks and troughs. Conspiracy theorists like to pretend they're some kind of Divinely-Ordained Doom-Wall. Even Professor Van Allen himself discounted the slander that the Moon Landings were faked on the basis that the astronauts wouldn't have spent sufficient time within the belts to have been impacted. Van Allen himself disagrees with you, and so do his theories. Radiation poisoning takes an exposure of months, not a matter of hours.

+Bartolomeo Vanzetti The ISS is constantly falling towards the Earth. Because of where it is located it is still affected by Earth's gravity, causing it to be pulled inwards. It has to frequently adjust it's location to keep the station from performing a reentry.
@DrivenMind
@DrivenMind 8 жыл бұрын
+Bartolomeo Vanzetti If I'm honest, I haven't researched it yet, and I'm still waiting on one of you guys to produce a video about these zig zags; but if I had to guess, my first guess would be that the ISS has some kind of ventilation system for the various rooms which expels climate controlled air of some kind. So those bubbles, even in zero g, would be subjected to whatever breeze or wind was being pushed into the individual modules by the climate control system, and would thus move accordingly. For a bubble to zig zag, all it would take would be two ac vents on opposite sides of the room, set at different heights, for a spherical water droplet to appear to zig zag. If we simply assume that there are a number of various different sources of moving air in the space station, that is pretty much all that is needed to account for the movement of droplets in zero g, in the space station. Remember, just because they are in zero G doesn't mean the atmospheric forces of drag suddenly cease to exist. Also, when the ISS gets reboosted to retain its orbit above the Earth, objects that appear to be free floating would appear to move relative to the space station, as it was accelerated and gained altitude. Just my $.02 off the top of my head... More interestingly though, why doesn't the sheer existence of water droplets becoming spherical and achieving hydrostatic equilibrium not count as evidence that they are indeed in zero g? It seems like you focus on the easily explainable movement of the bubbles, while completely dismissing the fact that a drop of water has formed a floating sphere.

This in incredible. It shows that there is not only science to be made in space, but space itsself is marvelous art. You guys show that space is more than a place to learn about ourselves and our surroundings, more than a refuge in case of catastrophe. I know, due to you schedules, you have more to do than to make videos, but please continue to do so. After all, it is not "boring" analysis, that get people fascinated in science and science in micro-g in particular, but inspiring visuals like this one.
