Super nice! I find that a gray primer followed by a white zenithal (airbrush or spray can, doesn´t matter) followed by a drybrush with white, brings out even more detail when painting with contrast paints. Basically, you get an edge highlight on a lot of areas, and it increases the painting time by a few minutes per model, so definitely worth it!

@Critical Hit Wargaming I mean I'm most interested in the knights of minas tirith, be good to see a speed paint on those mounted units, I imagine they aren't far from the rohirrim but I'm a typical guy and love visual aids haha. I'd be interested in the highlighting video. The contrast paints look so good that I literally bought them all to do my riders. I'm mainly wondering if you'd do any highlighting on the horses where you've used contrast paint and what colours you'd use to highlight
@criticalhitwargaming52902 жыл бұрын
You can indeed take them to the next level with some extra highlights, even over the top of contrast paints! I'll make a video on it at some point. Unfortunately many of the contrast paints look a bit... cartoon-like, for lack of better words, when used on more realistic models such as those found in LoTR.
@nickmeredith0022 жыл бұрын
@@criticalhitwargaming5290 they look fantastic on yours. Not cartoony at all. Though I did see on other videos that the lighter contrast paints can be difficult to work with in that sense. Nonetheless, I have no other colours for horse variety, so I'm interested to try with these paints. Hopefully I get the same result as you were able to. .
@criticalhitwargaming52902 жыл бұрын
@@nickmeredith002 Ah apologies yeah I meant contrast paints outside the ones used in the video. The brighter colours like purples, yellows and blues look too vibrant on LOTR models which are more subdued for the most part. For coverage on horses like in the video, they're superb. Saves an unbelievable amount of time.
@nickmeredith0022 жыл бұрын
@@criticalhitwargaming5290 well this hasn't really worked. The contrast paints are causing everything to go really streaky and splotchy and it looks horrible. In order to combat this, the paint needs to be so thick that my snakebite leather is looking more like your cygor brown. I'm not quite sure how you're applying the paint and avoiding this, because as soon as I touch the miniature to apply the first coat, the brush strokes just create an instant mess of paint with uneven coverage that I'm then having to try and go over and redo later, which also makes things worse if it isn't dry.
@criticalhitwargaming52902 жыл бұрын
@@nickmeredith002 That definitely shouldn't be happening. Something has gone wrong there for sure. You have spray-primed your models, right? If so, what undercoat did you use? There's no magic occurring in this video - I'm literally just dunking my brush in the pot and putting it straight on the model!

That's only for the Basilicanum Grey horse. Basilicanum Grey straight out the pot goes very blotchy, whereas all the others are straight out the pot. Since making this video Army Painter have released a set of speed paints, and Gravelord Grey does a much better job for grey horses.
