This deck has so many angles of attack - tons of control, card advantage, a combo the opponent needs to respect, and lategame in the form of big beefy creatures. Fittingly for a demon deck, it feels like an RPG final boss, complete with the super obscure weakness (if you remove the counters from the Archfiend with Render Inert, you win)

if they remove them you just remove your own archfiend....its important to keep a removal spell for your own archfiend especially against a deck you think can have inert

@@bdub884 if you think annex is overpowered then youve gotta check out steaming sauna roaring furnace....the 2 mana removal spell kills the ritual chamber demon and the 5 mana draw side is as good if not better than the annex itself. it doesn't drain but the trade off is the no max hand size which works in a bunch of different ways like union of the 3rd path

i made this deck the other day with one less cut down for a ghost vaccuum and i dont have the foundry land so im using mirrex for now but escape tunnel isnt bad either to make slasher unblockable...love this mono black demon combo....duskmourn by far my favorite set so far this year your videos are my favorite...keep rocking those cards man...

I think its somewhat healthy for the format. Knowing you can die on turn 4 makes you have to respect their turn instead of doing whatever you want. Adds the incentive to run answers in decks that otherwise “dont want to” and slows down aggressive and messy pump-spell decks that have a chokehold on the format right now. Plus, ive very rarely seen these decks run cards that have defined standard for years now like Sheoldred in their lists since there are better curve options, so thats always cool to see the diversity.

It would leave the opponent at 1. The crearures would hit for 5 damage and then the Slasher ability would only hit for 1.

My version has escape tunnel for slasher. Rush of dread in case slasher gets exiled and I have blood letter out. I got cruelty of gix too. Mines a bit more discard though. No unholy annex and no archfiend. I also run painful quandary.. but yeah, your version of the deck is basically what I started the game with

hey for the mirror you may want to bring in coiling rebirth...it can make things easier when you have 2 copies of unstoppable slasher or doomsday excruciator (keep in mind the exile portion is on cast but when your reanimate it you get the draw card bonus and with rebirth you get 2 copies of the effect) this can matter in some matches where the game is going long and you just need more cards also i would consider having some number of outrageous robbery in order to mill them out kinda like jace with doomsday excruciator.... and then id put the excruciator on the sideboard for the same reasons

Ah, the Bloodletter, both despicable and awesome, depending on whose hand is on. Nah, it's ALWAYS despicable, even if you're playing it, same goes for the slasher 😆 And Liliana... I add a couple of sorcerous spyglasses in all my decks because of her (and other planeswalkers, land-creatures, creatures and artifacts with nasty activated abilities, etc.)

Only 6 demons in the deck, most of the time cavern of souls would be a colorless mana, hindering your ability to curve.

You could sprinkle in a few, although the main card you want to resolve against control decks is the Room which won’t benefit from it. I wouldn’t spend the wildcards on it for this deck if I didn’t already have them. At some point I was playing with Avarice which wants us to max out on Swamps to reliably cast it and didn’t update the manabase afterwards.

I have a rule-question. What if you assemble an infinite lifegain combo in a real paper-game of magic (like a tournament) and you say okay i have infinite life. And then you get hit with the "half your life and double the dmg"-combo from this deck. Would you lose the game?

In paper you never get 'infinite' you just repeat the loop some number of times, maybe a billion. Then half of a billion, times two, is a knockout!

Yes he's right, if I remember correctly on paper you have to state the number of times an "infinite combo" is achieved, so if you gain "infinite life" you will still lose if someone does infinite damage or that deck's combo.

You have to pick a arbitrary large number don't actually have infinity life.

Yeah because you never have genuine infinite life. You have arbitrarily high amounts of life. So there is a end point that makes it possible for you to die from damage. Even if you said you now have a few Graham's number worth of life that's still possible to deal if your life total is halved twice.

The payoff also makes a Demon so it’s more like 10. Unlike Elves or Goblins you can rarely fill a deck with only Demons and have it be functional by virtue of there not being enough creatures at the earlier parts of the curve.
