But, I am very curious to know what size injector to run with this set up? I am also running a cam with .553/.553 lift and 262/212 intake duration 268/218 exhaust duration with 111 lobe separation. I currently have a set of 36lb. injectors with the wire harness adapters. The stock intake is still installed until I obtain all the parts needed to do this install. @Compcams19765 жыл бұрын
For peak HP earlier in the RPM range on a 5.3, the 54-456-11 paired with the 26906CS-KIT would be an awesome performance cam and spring combo, especially with headers and a roughly 2000 stall converter.
@joshtheking17725 жыл бұрын
Dont base your choice off of dyno charts if it's going to be a street motor. Reason for this is because not very many people drive around at 2500 to 3500 rpm at wide open throttle. It's just not practical. I would go for the port matching and blue printing of the motor instead. It will allow you to balance the engine better and increase the flow of the top end of the motor and allow you for a broad range of upgrades later. The stock cam is good to around 500 hp. That seems to be a good street motor to me. Dont even bother with headers until you reach around 550 to 600 horsepower because the LS heads flow really good until you get into so e serious racing how at around the 700 hp mark. One more thing to note is that, as with all top end upgrades, you may need to tinker with the injector pulse width timing. Good video but not everyone wants racing parts on their street vehicles.
@Compcams19765 жыл бұрын
@@joshtheking1772 While you make a couple good points, especially at the beginning, towards the bottom there's a couple areas that aren't as correct. The #1 biggest limiting factor of any stock LS is the camshaft. You could put the most awesome ported heads made on an otherwise stock LS and it will still nose over after 5000rpm with the stock cam, intake and throttle body. The key is to upgrade parts together, that way you take care of limiting factors as they come. If you look at any proven 600+ HP NA LS motor, you're not going to find very many stock GM parts on it.
@joshtheking17725 жыл бұрын
I guess it all lies with trying to get street and strip to work together in a good tuning harmony. I just dont see why I would bench my heads to only do a camshaft especially with a high lift and duration on a stock block and heads with only a valve spring upgrade. That doesnt make sense. On a dyno you could do it all day long but that still doesnt dictate street viability and performance.
@Compcams19765 жыл бұрын

I’m still puzzled at how do you gain 100 hp just off of a cam? I get that we aren’t dealing with drivetrain loss but 480 hp from a stock 5.3 with fbo and even a cam still seems more like 6.0 territory numbers. What would that be for wheel horsepower?
@Compcams19765 жыл бұрын
We understand your concern, however 100hp from an intake/cam is totally possible on a 5.3. Going from an engine dyno to wheel hp is tough, to be safe, assume a 25% drivetrain loss. Manuals have a bit less drivetrain loss, automatics a bit more, plus tire/wheel combination and rear end ratio make a difference too. Factoring in a 25% powertrain loss, this setup could make 360 whp, which is pretty realistic. The gains are basically the same either way, pretty much all 3 bolt GM LS motors are extremely mild from the factory. Some of our new LST cams are easily proving these gains.
@Maverick091715 жыл бұрын
I believe the gains they post, but notice there was no mention of the loss down low. Below 3k you can see the power and torque dive. Which is exactly where you want it on a heavy truck.
@Compcams19765 жыл бұрын
@@Maverick09171 It's very hard to get an engine dyno to read that low consistently. Quite honestly, anything below 2k rpms is irrelevant for most setups because of a torque converter stall. Any "losses" there would be will be hardly noticeable.
@Maverick091715 жыл бұрын
COMP Cams that’s probably somewhat true. Except it’s also about “manners” at that rpm. I went with a biggish cam with high overlap on an Ls1. Sure it sounded incredible but I had to keep it tached up (2k+) to make steady state cruise enjoyable. Granted that was an m6 car, but with tcc locked the results are going to be the same. In the end I swapped for a smaller cam with 3 degrees more LSA, which was much more friendly and ended up making very similar peak power and gained a ton “under the curve”.
@Compcams19765 жыл бұрын
@@Maverick09171 You're definitely correct. This is part of the reason we post what the powerband of each camshaft is, that way it is easier to tell what range you need to be in. A lot of our newer LS grinds do not have nearly as much overlap, in order to create better low/mid rpm manners without sacrificing top end power. Plus, they still sound great ;)

Do the stock ECU compensate for the cam and springs? Or will it need a tune?
@Compcams19765 жыл бұрын
You will need a tune with most of our camshaft offerings, however we do have a few options that add decent power without a tune.

I have lm7 I put 243s (stock) tbss, 92mm tb 224/228, 600 lift cam 110lsa with 4:10s in the rear. Upgraded trans and rear end and it's a slug. Guy said he tuned it but there is no way. Is it my tune possible or look elsewhere?
@Compcams19765 жыл бұрын
That could be any number of things, tune is always a good start. If it's in a heavier vehicle (3800 lbs+) you're going to want a 3000 or higher stall if you're really looking for response. Otherwise, that's a pretty aggressive cam for a 5.3 with basically stock heads, so your low end response is going to suffer no matter what.

Just wondering but below 3k how much tq should be lost at part throttle driving and even wot pulls from say 2000rpm when the converter flashes ? I want a good mild cam for my 04 4.8 rcsb truck but dont wanna loose that power down low. Looking for a healthy dd cam that still pulls good in low rpms. Been looking at the low lift cams and the btr nsr cam. What would comp recommend vs what I just said. Thanks
@Compcams19765 жыл бұрын
For a mild cam in a 4.8, the 54-700-11 is an awesome No Springs Required choice! Great sound, and we have seen 68hp gains on a 5.3 with little to no losses in the lower RPM range. If you plan to also do intake manifold and headers, the 54-702-11 will give you even more power. One note on those 4.8/5.3 trucks, they see a lot of benefit from a higher stall converter. Even a 2500 stall will help wake up the truck significantly, and along with one of these cams it will greatly improve how the truck drives!

Don't listen to the other dude. Yes. In the lower RPMs, you will lose power. If you get an aggressive cam. But this can be negated with a higher stall speed torque converter.

@Compcams19765 жыл бұрын
It really depends on your setup. This is a pretty aggressive cam for a 5.3, however in a car that spends a lot of time at the track (or someone who's looking to pull the most possible out of a stock 5.3) this is a great setup. In an auto car you would need to up the stall converter quite a bit to keep this cam in its power range in a 4.8/5.3. But it will respond excellently to any breathing mods you do!

That cam would be too much for my 05 Buick Rainer 5.3. I would love a cam around a 220/224 duration, 580ish/590ish lift with great torque in mind...
