Beautiful terrain is much more a conversation piece then say a plate or spoon or glass. Example . What a lovely plate. Thanks... end of conversation Wow what a unique piece of scenery! What is that for? Oh that ? That's part of an epic campaign where adventures and friends gather together to play and use our imaginations to travel distant places and times.

LOL I did exactly what you want to do with my fancy glass hutch , I now have D&D terrain in the hutch , most items in the hutch we never used so I gave them to Goodwill and the items I truly wanted found other homes. We have a game room, but it is too small for D&D nights so the dining area gets taken over when we play and I am so glad to have all the terrain on display and easy to see!

This video would be the perfect segway into an episode about how to store dungeon terrain (which is a topic you should actually cover, btw). That said, as a pragmatist, I support the repurposing of the cabinets. I am hopeful that Mrs. Dungeonmaster will appreciate the sound and well constructed argument presented to her.

I am a woman, and I agree with you completely on swapping the China out for the terrain. The pretty crystal pieces could be put somewhere the light can catch them, like with candles on a mantel, or in an area that gets a lot sun. The other China could be either be displayed elsewhere if you really like it, somewhere people can appreciate it. The rest stored until needed. And the terrain should stored in the display case, to protect it from dust. It's a lot harder to clean, and the finish is more likely to be damaged.

It seems like you see the glass case as a utilitarian piece of furniture, more like a tool box meets display case. Perhaps other people see the display case more as a sanctuary for important heirlooms. Less utilitarian, and more sentimental and traditional. One more thing, is the China must be protected, and the minis are greay toys. You can test this, just rake some wine glasses and drop them off the table, then drop some minis and see which causes you a bigger headache. Also for the poll to be valid, we would need to ask subscribers to a fine China channel, and perhaps a control group of people who are neither China or mini people.

BECAUSE it always ends up in me drawing things out on graph paper to save time trying to translate properly things like ... "the hallway is 60 ft. long, it turns to the west at 40ft and to the east at 60...Oh and there are three doors 2 on the east wal...blah blah blah... " They loved the UDT btw but to me it would have been faster to just keep the battlemat since now Ive added an EXTRA thing for myself to do.

While putting the things you use in the display cabinet is the logical approach, the key word is "display". For the sake of a relationship, you must realize that display cabinets are as often more about the display than a practical storage device. It in combination with its contents is an art piece. As such, arguing that replacing seldom or never used tableware with often used dungeon terrain isn't going to go over well if the other party doesn't actually view said dungeon terrain as the kind of item that they want in that display cabinet.

It is essential for a happy wife to not evict her chachkies. Happy wife, happy life. In other words, she's right, your wrong and there's nothing we (as men) can do about it. On the other hand, if you have a spare room or space in the basement, claim this area and mark your territory. It is now the Man Cave, which is sacrosanct. If the area is big enough to entertain and play D&D, more the better. All in the name of compromise. :oD

Do not mess with Mrs. Professor Dungeon Master. Seriously don't. While you may not use the china frequently (okay twice yearly) there are a few things you just have to accept being married. Happy wife, happy life.

I've already accepted when I ask her "Is anything wrong?" she will respond "Nothing." But "nothing" actually means "something." That should be enough. No?

@@DUNGEONCRAFT1 Okay if I sub it will soften the blow a little. I tried. Some of your terrain looks like Dwarven Forge. Do you use any? Do you know where to get any pre painted 25mm bookshelves? I don't have a lot of time for painting, otherwise I'd get a Mantic terrain crate.

D&D should be played in whatever room of the house is closest to a basement. If you do have a basement and it isn't finished, maybe that's where you should start. Otherwise maybe you can install some nice shelves in the dining room? But I think she probably just wants to feel like she has some semblance of the house she imagined living in before she married a big ol' nerd.

The miniatures on display would be cool, maybe the most monstrous ones could be in the back just to not alienate the normies that frequent your house (I'm assuming some come by).

I lost that argument about 20 years ago. But, we do have a bunch of ceramic houses that we have collected that are great for 10mm deal wargames.
