I am a woman, and I agree with you completely on swapping the China out for the terrain. The pretty crystal pieces could be put somewhere the light can catch them, like with candles on a mantel, or in an area that gets a lot sun. The other China could be either be displayed elsewhere if you really like it, somewhere people can appreciate it. The rest stored until needed. And the terrain should stored in the display case, to protect it from dust. It's a lot harder to clean, and the finish is more likely to be damaged.

It seems like you see the glass case as a utilitarian piece of furniture, more like a tool box meets display case. Perhaps other people see the display case more as a sanctuary for important heirlooms. Less utilitarian, and more sentimental and traditional. One more thing, is the China must be protected, and the minis are greay toys. You can test this, just rake some wine glasses and drop them off the table, then drop some minis and see which causes you a bigger headache. Also for the poll to be valid, we would need to ask subscribers to a fine China channel, and perhaps a control group of people who are neither China or mini people.

"the hallway is 60 ft. long, it turns to the west at 40ft and to the east at 60...Oh and there are three doors 2 on the east wal...blah blah blah... While putting the things you use in the display cabinet is the logical approach, the key word is "display". For the sake of a relationship, you must realize that display cabinets are as often more about the display than a practical storage device. It in combination with its contents is an art piece. As such, arguing that replacing seldom or never used tableware with often used dungeon terrain isn't going to go over well if the other party doesn't actually view said dungeon terrain as the kind of item that they want in that display cabinet.
