We hear athletes say it all the time... "I need more speed under the bar", or "I need to get under the bar... I just don't know why I can't at this weight"...
This weeks video we dive into speed under a heavy bar... and I have 2 key points!
1. We're often the reason we go slow under the bar
2. Physical limitations that are slowing us down!
When we're the reason we're unable to get under the bar it often comes down to technique. We're doing something "extra" trying to get more out of the lift that is actually slowing us down.
Example of this is trying to pull the bar higher for too long. Or, trying to be really aggressive off the floor and being pulled out of position without realizing it.
Physical limitations can also hold slow us down getting under a clean or a getting under a snatch. If we are uncomfortable in the receiving position then moving there quickly is not going to happen! Period!
Dig into the video to learn more.

Excellent video. I'm 66 and until January 2019, I never lifted a pound in training. The last weekend in February, I entered the Ontario Masters Championships and got one snatch to pass and one clean and jerk to pass making me an Ontario Champion in my age group and weight class. Eight weeks after that, I entered the Canadian Masters Championships and got two snatches to pass and all three clean and jerks to pass making me a Canadian Champion in my age group and weight class. I say that to say this. You are so correct about range of motion being a handicap. I cannot put my arms in the air WITHOUT THE BAR and do a proper squat. I can do it, but my arms want to come forward!! That bugs me. So, what I'm trying to do now is, instead of going into a squat where needed, I do a split instead. Before I exit my age range (65 to 69) I want to clean and jerk my weight of 77 kilos. My clean and jerk PR was set at the Canadians and is at 56 kilos, so I've got a lot of strengthening to do. I love that you don't have crappy music or foul language!!! Big fan here.

Thank you! Good luck to you in all your goals! Make a daily routine out of mobility exercises. A number of our masters who make weekly appointments with a massage therapist are very surprised that a few months down the road they're hitting positions that used to be very difficult for them. Much of mobility is like the chinese bambo... it is a underground for years... needing water and fertilizer... and then in a very short span it grows an incredible amount.. Much of mobility doesn't feel like much as changed in the moment, but over time you're in new positions.

This was very helpful I’ll be back in a month or two to tell you my progress!! One of my main problems with the clean is that I have doubt when it’s off the floor and mobility!

If we can't do the squat in the clean, can you give me a video of doing the clean with the "split squat". For us old guys, it's an honest way to cheat.
