My grandmother absolutely adored this musical, and so did I. When she passed away last year in February, I kept thinking of this song and how many brilliant memories myself and my family had created with her. Every moment was a good one. And the song seemed almost like the most beautiful send off I could think of for her as I imagined the music after she passed. Made me cry quite easily.

I remember watching this movie like it was yesterday, which wasn't too long ago if I'm being honest. My mom was watching the Julie Andrews lifetime achievement awards and I truly only knew her from shrek and princess diaries. Idk why but that day I was just so compelled to watch the tv which is something I don't do often because I prefer listening to music or reading over watching things. We were sitting watching the people come and go, saying how it was to work with Ms. Andrews, then the sound of music appeared. I saw a twinkle in my moms eye as she started reminiscing of the time with momma (grandma) going on how this movie was her favorite, and how when they watched it together time stopped and problems faded. I was so reluctant and dismissive saying it's just a movie but then I continued seeing her continue to twinkle and be so happy, I just shut up and let her talk. I always loved hearing about momma but I hate musicals, she was like "we should watch it, lets watch it" I felt a pit like 'oh no, I'm going to hate it' i've never been so wrong in my life. Fare well and my favorite things came on and each time I felt broken yet happy and began to cry. I asked my mom why does this sound so familiar and she said momma used to sing these songs to me. Even though I cried I never took my eyes off the screen, my mom fell asleep and I was still watching, that night became one of the happiest moments of my life it was so simple yet it meant everything to me. Bickering and fighting with our mothers seems to have become a tradition of my family but that night were calm, happy, and at peace just watching a musical something normal just taken for granted. The sound of music has become one of my fav movies and I've gone to discovering and watching old musicals because early 2000's have set me up as I thought all musicals were like what I seen at that time.
