11.16.19 | by Adam | FDR, Manhattan - An NYPD cop fatally crashed on the divider of the FDR near East 23 St around 3 am Sunday. No other vehicles were seen involved. Two people including a firefighter and his girlfriend were in critical condition after being ejected out of the vehicle. The officer was trapped in the vehicle, extricated after the removal of both doors and the roof, loaded into an ambulance with a white sheet, no CPR performed, pronounced dead on the scene, and was transported by ambulance. NYPD highway was on the scene and conducted a collision investigation.
NYPD DCPI Narrative: "On Saturday, November 16, 2019, at approximately 0238 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a single motor vehicle collision on the FDR Drive at East 23 Street, within the confines of the 13 Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed a 2016 black Lexus sedan mounted on the center median. The operator, a 25-year-old male, was discovered inside the vehicle, unconscious and unresponsive, with severe head trauma. Two additional occupants were also discovered at the scene; a 25-year-old male passenger and a 25-year-old female passenger. The male passenger was discovered outside the vehicle with trauma about the legs and torso. The female passenger was also discovered outside the vehicle with trauma about the legs and right foot. EMS responded to the location transported all three occupants to Bellevue Hospital, where the operator was pronounced deceased and the passengers were listed in serious but stable condition; the female sustained a severed right foot. Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined the vehicle was traveling northbound on the FDR, approaching East 25 Street, at an apparent high rate of speed, when the vehicle-mounted the center median, causing the male and female passengers to become ejected from the vehicle and come to a rest in the southbound travel lanes. The investigation remains ongoing."

And that's what happens when young cops have too much authority it goes straight to their heads, they act stupid it gets swept under the rug and lives are lost as the result of zero repercussions. He def didn't deserve to die I agree, but a badge would of been stripped after the first careless speeding ticket in a school zone. How do they expect citizens to follow the law if they are pulling stunts like this?! Its ridiculous!

I can't believe how incredibly fortunate his friends were to be ejected, instead of crushed. What I can believe, is that those school zones are much safer for the lack of his presence. Kudos to the officer's that pulled him over and issued those tickets. It was all a joke to him.

As a first responder (firemedic) for the past 21 years it breaks my heart to see something so tragic that could of been prevented. You know that you are working to get a fellow brother or sister out of the vehicle and trying to preserve the privacy and integrity of the scene knowing there is extreme head trauma which can be quite bloody. They all did an excellent job here maintaining professionalism, and still worked fairly quickly to get him out knowing he was deceased. Makes me wonder why the others weren’t wearing seatbelts or maybe that’s what saved their lives that night. Some accidents that I have worked the occupants would of died had they been restrained and other accidents would of died if they weren’t restrained. Always air on the side of caution and wear your seatbelt. Heartbreaking to watch for sure💔😔

@@AngeloR674 dude… speeding is still illegal. at the end of the day the speed limits are there for a reason. how are you going to know that a tire may not blow on your car or even if someone panics because they see someone speeding and doesn’t know how to react. somethings are unpredictable. You can’t predict what others are thinking or what their next moves are. If you do you must have some sort of superpower. As an emt most of my calls are my motor vehicles accidents that are solely from speeding. It takes an average person a total of 359ft to brake when going 60 miles per hour 66ft for perception 66ft for your brain to actually react and it takes a normal sedan 227ft NEEDED to actually get the cars to stop aka inertia. Remember most Highways like this one for example and most in New York are a 55m speed limit. So “SPEAK FOR YOURSELF” when you get into a crash. Remember, Ignorance is the root of all evil. God bless.

What’s even scarier is that this officer had 10 moving violations within the previous year and one of them- speeding through a school zone- was procured only days before this accident. Do you know who has the most outstanding red light tickets in NY city? The cops. The school bus drivers were complaining about people running through their stop sign when they were loading and unloading children so they complained about the cops not doing enough so they put cameras on the bus to catch those running the stop sign. When they reviewed the footage the cops and other school huses were the main ones running the stop sign. The insanity nnever ends.

They told me that it was one of the girls who worked in the office who was killed in a wreck. I told them that I had just passed by the wreck but had no idea it could be her! As a kid (there were about 10 of us in this farm truck heading to this camp), I witnessed an accident between an RV and a motorcycle... The guys helmet was in the middle of the road, his head was in it, but his body was 20 feet away. A lot of the kids were puking. I'll never forget that. I was also in a bus (Greyhound) accident on a mountain pass here in Canada. It was a head-on with a guy in a minivan and several people were hurt. My friend and I jumped off the bus to help the guy in the van but couldn't do much, the steering wheel crushed him against his seat. It was the middle of winter and I watched as his last breath dissipated. About 20 years later, I almost got in what was very close to being a fatal accident myself, driving across the same damn bridge in the middle of winter.... My life is far from boring.

Some cars can reach 100mph so quickly it is beyond the scope of realizing it until it’s too late, and if you make a sudden panicked or even nervous action, the car handles much differently than going 60 mph. I’m not saying that car was doing 100mph, I’m just saying that very powerful cars enable regular drivers to put themselves in situations they are not prepared for. The evidence is shown in all the Dodge Hellcats wrecked nowadays. 707hp is fun until you are sideways at 90mph! There is so much power that even a heavy blip of the throttle at 20mph can send you careening out of control into an immovable object. Not good.

I had a date with a guy once and I kept asking him to slow down. He wouldn’t and his argument was “I’m in the express lane. I’m going with the flow of traffic.” He was going nearly 90mph in Miami. If you know anything about Miami, it’s the epicenter for terrible drivers. You can’t control the way others drive but you can protect yourself better should something happen if you are as controlled and focused as you can be. I’m not applying that to this couple in particular. I’m just saying generally speaking. When someone is speeding, its too easy to lose control of the vehicle or provide less time/room to react if something happens. That was our last date. It showed he was immature and he didn’t care about my safety. I’m very particular about who I ride in a vehicle with. There are too many reckless and selfish drivers.

With the ridiculous driving record he had, the department should've reined him in long before it got to this point, and the union would have been stupid to protect his job. @@sjb3460I live and drive in NYC. I know how camera tickets and parking tickets work in this city. They are both assessed to a vehicle's REGISTRATION, and not to the LICENSE of the registered owner. If I loan out my car to a friend or relative and that person sets off a camera infraction, the ticket comes to me in the mail but is not assessed to my license. I'm not sure how that is so hard to understand, especially for someone like yourself that claims to own a car. The tickets aren't "included in his record" the media simply can use the Freedom of Information act to look up how many tickets have been assessed to his vehicle's REGISTRATION and are attributing them all to him because it's safe to assume that he was the driver in all of the cases. He may or may not have been and they are trivial because NOBODY in this city drives consistently at 25 MPH. Camera tickets are simply a money grab for the city. The only tickets that go on your record are the ones issued in traffic stops by law enforcement personnel. Not cameras. Furthermore, just because YOU won't loan out your car to someone, has nothing to do with what anyone else would or would not do.
@virginiaviola5097
@virginiaviola5097 Жыл бұрын
In Australia a ticket will go to the registered owner of the vehicle, but there is also a point system, so that points will also be deducted from the registered owners license too. The higher the rate of speed over the allocated limit, the more points lost.. and accumulating 12 points is an automatic loss of license. If you lend someone your car and they get the ticket, then there’s a form to sign and the ticket, fine and points lost will then be issued to the driver.

Car accidents will always be a part of life. It's like a never-ending story. What people need to take into consideration. Is stay within the law, don't drink, and drive or use legal, or illegal drugs while operating a motor vehicle. Sometimes you see other motorists honking their horn and zoom past you, shortly after ending up before the red light. Next thing you know your side by side with the jerk off blowing his horn for nothing. These jerk offs shouldn't be driving. They are responsible for a majority of accidents. P.S. You know for a fact, the driver in this horrific accident will be tested. As it relates to these individuals. My condolences go out to their family members.

They need to stop blurring out the most shocking portions of these videos. People need to see what can happen as the result of someone's stupidity on the road, and they need to see those consequences in stark reality. That also means not covering the bodies with sheets while they're still inside the wrecks. People need to have it brought home to them the conditions that bodies can wind up in when excessive speed, rude driving, intoxication, etc. kills people. When I was taking driver's ed in high school, we were shown films of fatal accidents, and nothing was left to the imagination. Nothing got blurred out. We saw the dead bodies as they were, with all the injuries, blood, severed parts -- everything. The idea was to impress upon us young ladies and young men the consequences of unsafe driving on both those who caused the accidents and innocent people also killed in them. Some claim that covering these bodies and blurring out the images is done out of "respect" for the dead. Once dead, these victims no longer care about that. They're gone. But WE need to learn some hard lessons about irresponsible driving, and seeing in all the stark gore and gruesomeness the results of it just might impress on some of these rude and entitled people how THEY might end up if they don't slow down, shut off their phones, and start paying attention and being more courteous and considerate on the road. The most dangerous arrogance a driver can have is the attitude, "It can't happen to ME!" Oh, yes it CAN! And innocent lives can be lost as a result of such arrogance. It isn't just the crash victims that are hurt or killed. It's the grieving families left behind without their loved one(s), the trauma the first responders experience -- the repercussions can be far reaching and can last a lifetime. Stop blurring this stuff out. If some folks are too squeamish, they don't have to watch these videos. But those who do may come away a lot wiser and much more cautious and conscientious when they get behind the wheel, and we could ALL be a lot safer.

@@kjevans68 That's over 3+ years. I don't know anything about the points system New York uses, but depending on how many tickets were removed via things like defensive driving or plea deals, normal people don't always lose their license for that. Let's say 1 ticket a year gone to DD and one plea deal, leaves us with 18 tickets, or 6 a year. If they were 2 point tickets with 12 points max, you'd be barely hanging onto your license if they were interspersed properly.

To explain further... If I was a firefighter, I would want to be sure that the person using it A:Knows where to cut to get the job done right without causing other issues. B: Has enough experience to not break the tool during use. These are life saving tools and should be used correctly by trained personnel....Which there already was on scene. The next call could be ten minutes after cleanup here...That tool better NOT be broke! Granted it turned out okay, but I'd rather use a tool I am familiar with rather than let another person use it, such as a chain saw...etc. No real argument, just an observation.

In NYC they have a specialty unit called ESU Emergency Service Unit, they are specifically specialized in situations like this and assist FDNY. The beauty of NYC is that one way or another each department is crossed trained to assist each other. I pulled this from their site: The New York City Police Department Emergency Service Unit is a component of the NYPD Special Operations Bureau. The unit is uniquely trained and equipped to perform tactical (Special Weapons and Tactics, SWAT) and technical rescue duty for other department elements. Members of ESU are cross-trained in multiple disciplines for police, first aid, and rescue work.

Thankfully, no innocent people were harmed by the extremely dangerous street racing that led to this wreck! By dying, the driver has made the roads safer for others that use them and he can never again endanger anyone else! The policeman and the firefighter knew full well the likely consequences to unsecured occupants of the car in the event of a street racing high speed crash, the other passenger certainly knows something about that now, too! These adults chose to behave as they did, and across virtually every country, others will carry out equally recklessly negligent actions which may have life ending or life changing consequences, or as in this incident, both!
