Glad to hear that you're OK and no longer 'burning the candle at both ends'. I don't get these Speedmaster heads... You save some money on them, then spend a LOT of money to get them ported so that they will flow decent numbers. Why not just buy a set of AFR 195 Renegades? Great head, great flow, great quality....no need for porting. How much $$$ did your customer have in those Speedmaster heads once you ported and corrected them? I looked at a set recently and I noticed the head gasket fire ring hung into one of the chambers. Maybe milling them would reduce the chamber diameter so a gasket would seal and the large bore head gaskets would get the fire ring out of the chamber. The other major issue was the intake ports are cast so tall that the top of the intake gasket, when lined up with the head gasket register tabs, that the gasket is over halfway in the top of the port resulting in very little area to seal, especially when combined with a injected 5.0 intake that has notches for the injectors on the flange.

I have a set of those. I also have a professional ported 289 heads with 1.94 intake and 1.60 exhaust. We had a set of rpm heads ! The rpm heads were 1 tenths faster in the same car, cam-carb- intake combination! The 60' was actually quicker with the 289 heads! I'm building a 357ci Windsor. Think I'll use the ported 289 heads with the same springs on it! It going on a 94F150 Flareside. That low-end torque will come in handy!

There's a pair of Speedmaster 460 Ford heads in the shop right now, horrid chambers, gross ports, etc. They will not be used, customer can sell them to somebody else. We did a build with their 3V Cleveland heads last year because nothing else was available. Disappointing numbers on the dyno, thankfully it was a mild street build and the customer was happy. A pair of factory 4V iron heads would have made better numbers.

I just dealt with a set of those recently but they were the 165cc runner versions they add all the extra material up in the short turn it’s a really weird port the other problem they have is the adjustable guide plates like to move around so you have to add washers underneath the rocker studs and you definitely need to weld them together Another issue I had was the Rockerarms Tips sinking into the tips of the valves so I don’t know what the valves are made up but it can’t be very good PS I’m glad you’re feeling better

Well you hit the nail on the head. No pun intended. For the best vitamins and exercise for the Heart. Magnesium and Zinc are about the best thing you can do for your heart. And swimming is low stress, low impact but also uses the most muscle groups of any single exercise. The only other thing your missing would be diet. A diet that doesn't suck is the key. The best meat in the world for the highest source of Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids is actually Rabbit meat according to months health magazine. It has actually zero fat. If all you ever ate was Rabbit meat you would actually starve to death. Also grass fed beef gives you better benefits across the board. It tastes a little different but if you don't like the taste. Soak your stakes for 24 hours in milk or butter milk for 24 hours before cooking. Since this is a heart healthy diet better skip the butter milk. Do a little research and you will find that any meat that is pasture raised and grass fed has a ton of health benefits. Thats why the old timers of your grandparents Era could smoke and drink and live to 103. Back to the heads. Great info. After seeing the valve seats I dont think I would risk buying them if the seats are just going to fall out. Great info.

Some personal experience on Speedmaster Mopar heads but i believe they all suffer the same issues. The valve guides are extremely soft and don't last long. I've found the guides can also be too loose on the valve. I use Ferrea valves so I know the valve is good, the guide bore is big. Where Eric shows the step behind the seat insert usually also has a lack of material in general so there's not only a step but also a "hollow" in the port shape meaning you cannot grind away this problem. The valve seat diameter throat are generally too big with most intakes measuring up around 94% which again leaves no room for porting unless you go a bigger valve. They really are rubbish.

This is very inetresting to see... especially the low quality alloy/aluminum they use, although being a Mopar man, they would be the same deal I'm sure. But I'm wondering, if you went to the trouble to back cut a couple of valves and do the flow, why didn't you make the extra effort and CC a couple of chambers? At least 4 chambers, say 2 on each head), then that would give a general idea and be a more complete synopsis overall of the claimed data from the factory. Just saying, "I'm not going to bother CCing the chambers" is a bit strange considering this is a video about their manufacturing quality.

I know these heads are not stellar but would you say they are a respectable head for the cost. ie... You find some 302 shortblock and need some heads... its between factory iron heads or these... which do you spend your $$$ on? Do these have more potential over a stock iron head?

Glad to see your out & around! I'm really glad you got that BS taken care of! I don't know if you know how bad STRESS kills people! I have some fairly smart friends up here that work @ Yale New Haven medical, Its way worse than you think! Thats the main reason I said to get a CNC first, so you could do all the other stuff, while your heads are being cut! Thank you so much for speaking about the quality of material! People seem to think, cast aluminum or cast iron is all the same stuff! I could tell you for sure its not! You see it all the time when your machining a factory piece, compared to a good aftermarket piece! Alot of factory aluminum is really cheap, lite duty, material that is similar to what most American aftermarket companies use to make intake manifolds! Some parts from over seas are made from recycled soda can material & the casting cores are packed with some ones FEET! Not with a big press! So you really cannot expect much from overseas junk! If the shit runs in a hot rod, there usually happy, because they most likely never had real HP! If they think they are going to pour a bunch of boost or nitrous thru those type of parts, they are mistaken! Because they don't hold shape as well, which causes all kinds of issues, gaskets blown, valves sticking, seats falling out, heads lifting & bending making them really easy to blowtorch! Besides anything that's moving, [structure wise] is just sucking up horsepower! My boss had a customer that brought in all good engine internals, to put into a factory aluminum block & heads, w A Kenny Bell blower. It did run good, so we thought! It made around 940TQ & Almost 1100HP! After the first season, he brought it back, because he knew the stock resleeved block was on borrowed time! We replaced factory parts w A Dart block & heads combo, we took all the internals & put them in the Dart block & heads! We dynoed it again, same everything, timing, pulley ratio, cam, cam timing, compression, Blablabla! It made almost 60ftlbs more TQ & 100 Hp more! Everything was the same! Boost dropped from 14.5psi to 12psi, & of course it needed more fuel! If that doesn't show the difference in parts, I don't know what would! Sorry for the book Bud, I just like to share hard learned lessons, with people I would like to see succeed! Who the hell beat the dick out of your yoke? Finally, If you have cable, Venom, Carnage is on Starz channel! Either on demand, or Saturday Am Or Pm! I know you love that movie, probably saw it already! 😂😂😂😂

I'll tell ya in the oil pan alone with most of 3 pistons and a couple heads of valves You ever look at how many guys put just a little too much spring psi on those china valves and pop the head off. Yeah and every one I talk to says there is only 1 company that actually sells an assembled head that can actually be bolted on right out of the box. It's not Dart not Canfield not Brodix not TFS all those companies use the China crap that fails all the time. What about that ? You want to go to bat for a cheap set of heads where the same people put shit for parts in the head knowing they will more than likely fail. So what about the guy who says what are you talking about they are fully assembled and brand new? I'm not taking them to a machine shop to be "fixed" That guys has his Brand new heads on his Life long dream car and is ready the heads are brand new remember? Yeah lol!! Of comes the head.of an intake valve. And I need not say anymore.. So if your goin to complain because the are getting a bad rap then maybe they should quit screwing people. Let me ask you this the average car guy is very very unaware of what's really going on. Right and he hears all the bad stories. So he plops down $800 buck of his cash for a Brand New set of heads . Now you try to convince that person to take them in when the come in to a good machine shop to be COMPLETELY REWORKED AMD SPEND ANOTHER $800 good luck on that one. So I ask you a simple question knowing what we know and you still think they are trying to help? Buddy my own son couldn't be convinced to do a vavle job on a set of Skip White heads you know the youngsters so live and learn my son. He drove the car for awhile found out he was way down on power hmm? Do tell jr. I'm all ears well let's just say he had problems with those new heads right out of the box. And get this he still doesn't think they are all like that. So in.time I hope. But for now I would be more concerned about letting all the info out so we all can make wise choices. Keep in mind this guy is only a messenger he didn't make these heads. Be glad someone has the balls to tells us straight up info. Rather than take a kick (as in a few sets of heads) to promote lies and say good things about shit. That's my .02. let's the chips fall where they fall and you make your own decisions.. and on that note...peace out bitches!!

And yes my machinist told me he has checked many sets of AFR heads and each and everyone of them were bolt on right out of the box. And as we all know there is super crap from China and there is just cheap crap from China The stuff AFR is using is pretty good. It's not Manley or Ferrara but it does stay together. I trust my machist.and that's why I said it . He's got no dog in this fight just info. Take it for what it is worth.

We spent a lot of time porting a set of Procomp / Speedmaster and put better valves and springs. 1st pass at drag strip a valve seat fell out and put a hole in the cylinder of the block.

I don't understand why people buy these poor heads with so many problems and then will end up paying a great amount of money trying to make them better. Would it not make more sense to start with a good casting, something you won't have to worry about the seats falling out of, and then do a porting job. Seems like you might end up better. The higher quality heads are made with better aluminum and therefore will probably be more durable in the long run. I also know that a seat falling out is a great way to ruin your day and fixing the damage will convince you to buy a better head next time.

After several personal experiences I have found that anything Speedmaster/Procomp sells is rubbish. I've had terrible quality of core shift in manifolds, valve covers that didnt seal and had to be welded heads where valve seats work loose. Anyone looking to buy performance parts do yourself a favour and spend a little extra to buy something decent to save yourself a lot of headache later on.

And don't forget they also make electronic distributors, a large range to suit different makes for cheap. They have their fingers in lots of pies. I woudln't touch them either. You get what you pay for. Everything is made to a price.

I don’t know how these kind of people stay in business over here. I would just save and spend more money on good American made heads and be done with it. I’m just not a cheap person when it comes to anything I really want. Dart or Brodix thank you.

Be careful what you say, they will take away lollipop breaks for the 10 year olds slaving away in the chinese factories, making these heads.

Just shit from Speedmaster/Procomp!💩 Is there anything they make decent?

I bought a set of valve covers from them and they were so out of square I had to order 3/8" valve cover gaskets to get them to stop leaking. when you combine the price of the expensive gaskets with the cheap valve covers, I could have bought a nice set to begin with...

Its bad what i saw for NA and i can only see it getting worse, much worse with boost as far as durability of the materials.
