I did a set of the older procomp a few years back. I dont have the flow numbers on hand but I remember my .400 was about the same and they were 298@.600. I didn’t go as far with them as you. All I did is fix the short turns, open the pinch like you did, blend the seats to the bowls best I could and fix the chambers. Car ran good. It was a bracket car. Ran 10.0 in a 2800lbs fox.

Guy sold the engine after racing it for a season. It was his first drag car. Basically built a cheap motor to see if he liked the sport and then built something better. The heads were bought bare and had good valve and it was naturally aspirated. They never had any problems as far as I know. If you going to buy a set assembled and bolt them on stay far away from them. They will fail. They come with the worst hardware I’ve ever seen.

Did you leave the 2.02 valves? What exactly did you do to the chambers?

I just ordered a pair of the Speedmaster 190 DNA sbc heads on the Ciber monday sale. I hope they are decent. They'll definitely be better than the L98 128 castings I was planning on using on my 339 stroker build. Thanks for taking the time to show us all the info you do. It really helps us DIYers.

As far as I can see the pushrod bulge isn't the main issue. You've rectified that as far as is feasible. The real problem that remains is the spark plug boss hindering inlet flow at all lift points. I think if the heads were mine, I would machine up some thick copper washers in a lathe to fit under the plugs. Perhaps an eighth thick, and then gradually cut back the intrusive plug boss. This is of course dependent on plug thread depth in the heads. An alternative to plug spacers or in combination with them would be shorter reach plugs if these are available. A really interesting video which discusses problems any head porter might face. Keep up the good work.

I made a tool that tells aprox the thickness of pushrod pinch material and bolt material closeness based on the Helgeson tool idea. It has a center fulcrum and an equal length arm with two equal distance posts. One post goes in the head and the outside gives you an idea how close you are to breaking through. I work mostly with Olds heads.

David Vizard has a very simple home made tool for measuring the wall thickness in the intake port to pushrod hole. Look into it.

Brass block backer when welding aluminum in area you cannot get in to grind

In that pushrod situation, seems like a mill operation could take the allowable material away safely, leaving whatever thickness you’d be comfortable with. The oval pushrod slot should be in the same place for each cylinder (you’d think, anyway), so setup shouldn’t take forever. What you found with your finished product was really good, though. Thanks Eric!

The best way is to drill out the pushrod journals and drive bushings in place. Then open up the sides of the intake runners.

Glad I'm not the only one that's had this situation with PC Ford heads. Every one I've ever worked on has some kind of problem with the pockets, pushrod alignment, and/or just plain low quality machining. I think the smallest intake I have ever been able to use to straighten one of these heads up, has been 2.055 DIA. Lots have had to have 2.08s, and some even bigger. Makes for migraines when trying to get your percentages right.

Surprisingly I was able to grind those humps flat without busting through but I was nervous about it 🤣 I got it up to the width of the port and stopped without going any bigger. I have ported on a few sets of heads but Im far from being close to any league that youre in 🤣😂 you are a superman compared to me 🤣😂🤣

I don't think I would bother cutting it 0.02 to get back the couple CCs. Its flowing so much more now you aren't going to miss that tiny bit of compression and leaving that material there gives you a clean up cut in the future

I’ve had a set of speedmaster 3 v clevo heads since 2006 . Have just freshened them up . But bought them bare and then had them ported and filled with top US named stuff . Flowed 340 cfm .600 from memory. But that’s the inherent design in clevo heads . But buy them bare !

Less expensive Chinese copycat junk heads that cost a bunch of money to make them work right. You did a great job of fixing all the problems as best as possible. Why don't people just buy AFR or TrickFlow SBF heads to begin with?

I am currently porting this exact head for a budget build 408. Can you detail out what you did with the rest of the exhaust port? Also, why did you decide to leave the spark plug boss mostly untouched? I knocked mine down quite a bit more than you. Thank you! Sorry I missed you at PRI

Hey Eric, Tim here, was watchin a David Vizard vid (i'm sub'd to his chanel), and he brought somethin you dont normally mention.......the "Discharge Coeficient".....you must use it, just dont talk about it much......but i'm curious how u've dealt with that figure on ur porting.......cc's, and flow (which everybody cares about) are NOT the end-all, and i know you know it.......just curious on ur thoughts on the discharge coeficient for various heads you do.....TY sir!!!

I talked about it in the video about using larger valves. In short it’s not the most important thing. In this situation I used a larger valve to fix a worse problem
