I'm almost finished with my 76. THE BIGGEST pia was putting 5 gallon split tanks on it!!! Had to used JP Cycles " quick mount" welded up on perches. 75FLH dash base with catseye cover. Had to shim the ignition switch, speedometer had cut a window out of the speedometer case so the center light would actually light the gauge.Had to trim the front skirt on the cover the clear upper front mounting points. But hey, I scored a oem original speedo with HD logo and ZERO miles on it. It did come out sweet, definitely worth the effort. I would drop some pics , but YT doesn't let you do that apparently

Sounds good, man.
@tommylitchfield34502 жыл бұрын
I know this is a little late, but maybe you could split a really small vacuum hose and use that for your dash trim. I really liked the "interruption" by J.R. Cash :) That was purdy kewl! As an aside, for those who don't know, you can use a timer to check your speedometer accuracy by holding a steady 60 on the interstate and start the timer at one mile marker and stop it at the next. If your time is less or more than a minute, your speedo is off.

I fixed my thirst speedo in 17 years without. Good for long trips and petrol stations. The one I bought from internet is a small one with only 3 wires, easy to install and works by satellite. Cheap, but very exact and waterproof.

Only time Iv ever had a working speedometer on a Harley is from 1986 to 1987. My speedometer cable was still spinning in 1988. I just got a new speedometer but my counter shaft sprocket in 25 tooth which only lowers rpm about 175 RPM from stock in 4th gear 50 mph (That is according to my math not real world measurement). I have no idea how it will effect the speedometer.

Thanks for the video! Any chance you could suggest whether one can connect to the electra glide 2010 (j1850) a used matching speedometer (j1850) from other bike (say road king 2010) and do not get a VINERR displayed? p.s. people say it's just a drop in swap, other say - I need special equipment to "merry" speedo with ecm.

Just a suggestion, put a piece of rubber hose on the handle of your favorite ratchet so you don't beat on your Chrome and your paint, not saying you do but it gets away from us all at some point in time. Happy trails.

I've never done that, but I've seen it done before. A springer makes a sportster look pretty kickass. Like it's growling at you. I want to put one on mine eventually, mostly for function, but I think it'll look cool too.

All pieces I bought online except for the one dash that wouldn't work... I picked it from a local bike shop. I got two dashes just in case I was going to have fitment problems. Good thing too. I was 95% sure the base plate was going to fit. The speedometer itself is the only thing that isn't used, which I was surprised that it worked out because the dash and baseplate are late 60's.
