I really never minded the reactivation. You can use water to remove your mistakes. Also, reactivation allows blending with your highlights allowing a more natural transition.

Yes I definitely found the same on a couple of models when using the first version.

your background music was too loud - I couldn’t hear out what you were saying towards the end of the video. Thanks for doing this. I’m becoming concerned about the various reports I’m hearing about the cracking. One reviewer said he thought it was because he used a hairdryer to dry off the models, But this is the fourth report I’ve heard about cracking and may make me reconsider my decision to purchase. I guess I’ll wait to see if more people report this

I'm currently printing out some more models at the moment. I am going to run a quick trial to determine if it is (as has been suggested to me) either the primer or the heavy application. I will put out a video once I have a few more answers, and will try to take it a bit easier on everyone's ears as well. I can definetly confirm that I didn't try to speed up drying, they were just left to sit until dry.

Curious about your experience with the paint, hard to hear over music. Cheers!

Hey there, sorry about the Audio, my new microphone has been giving me issues. The speedpaint is a great solution for getting models ready for table top or as I prefer to use them, a base colour to then add some acrylic details over the top. Which the new formulation with the version 2.0 is great for as it doesn't have the same reactivation issues as the first version. Also I was disappointed to see the issue of paint cracking after drying, but when I was a bit more careful with the application, I didn't notice this issue. Happy with the extended colour range as well!

I’m blown away by that cracking! What the heck! That’s way more of an issue than reactivation ever was… good review though, iv subbed
@upskillinglife Жыл бұрын
I agree, the cracking is a bit worse than the reactivating issue, but I was happy that the models I painted, using a bit more restraint on the amount of speedpaint I applied, did not show signs of cracking. If I get any more information on resolving the issue I will look at covering it in a video. Thanks for the sub too!

@@upskillinglife Could you share what kind of primer did you use? Other users reported cracking when applying speed paint 2.0 over Liquitex White, I wonder if that's the cultrip.
@upskillinglife Жыл бұрын
I used Rust-oleum 2x flat white primer. I'm printing out some models at the moment to test that primer against some Army Painter Airbrush primer to hopefully get an answer.
@Springheel01 Жыл бұрын
So wait, it cracked over white primer but not grey? I couldn't make out what you were saying.
@upskillinglife Жыл бұрын
Yup, that’s right. It looks like I will have to delve a bit deeper to find out if it was the primer or a lighter application that was the difference. But yes, the white primer cracked and the ones painted with a lighter coat on grey primer did not crack.
@SteebRNR Жыл бұрын
i also had a little bit of cracking with these paints but it's because the paint was too much heavy
@upskillinglife Жыл бұрын
From what I can see from my trials, it seems like you mentioned, it is only where there is a heavy application that has pooled. Luckily I didn’t have any issues on the actual models that I tried the paints on.

1. Army Painter is a little bit sazzy when you confront them with cracking on their ads on insta now^^. Other KZbinrs incl. Painting Phase say the same, except the bought ones like Dana, Goobertown and Watch it Paint it. I have no need for Contrast which crackle over white Primer, especially when i prime with a ink 2. The Music in your Video is to loud and to gangsta. Dont hear anything you said without subitles 3. Thanks for your honest vid

Army Painter were pretty good and they actually reached out to me a couple of days after the video. They suggested that it could be quick drying (like a hair dryer), the primer (oil or ink based) or heavy application. They also got the details off me as well as some photos to accompany the video. At least that tells me they are looking into it. Somebody in the comments suggested a clear coat between the ink primer and speed paint. Maybe that would work for you? Did you ever try the version one speed paints over your ink primer?

The music was annoying and way too loud. The cracking has me concerned, so I hope there is a work around.
@upskillinglife Жыл бұрын
I am looking to see if there is a work around, but hopefully it is just the primer I used or the application was too thick as I was able to try some of the worst cases on the grey primer with a lighter application and they did not crack. I will post a follow up video if I tie down a workaround.

Really like your video, but the music playing during your conclusions,.. Very distracting. Anyways, thanks for the comparisons.
@upskillinglife Жыл бұрын
Glad you liked the content, even if the audio was … very distracting. You can check out my latest video where I look at the cracking issue more in-depth … and there is only 1 song in the video and it doesn’t have any vocals on top of it either.

Not a fan of that cracking! Reactivation is one thing, but the cracking is a no-go for me.
@upskillinglife Жыл бұрын
I have just addressed this further in my latest video and managed to get a few answers about what can cause the cracking.
@Jester497 Жыл бұрын
Ok that cracking is REALLY bad. I wish they just stuck to the old formula, the reactivation was easily fixable with a varnish and otherwise it was a really neat feature for blending. Really disappointing
@upskillinglife Жыл бұрын
I never really had issues with the reactivating, I think it only caused me trouble on one model but as you say, I was able to then create some interesting blending. The cracking is something I wasn’t expecting but when I was a bit more careful on the application and controlling the pooling on the grey primer and models, I didn’t see any cracking. Maybe it just means we can’t be as ‘slap’ happy with the paint as with the version one paints?
@lordsnake1988 Жыл бұрын
Reactivation was horrible. Made all my megaset 1.0 useless except for cars with damaged paint. Having to apply varnish after each layer kills the concept of speed.

Thanks for doing this video. PLEASE delete the music. It is bad and makes hearing you VERY difficult.
@upskillinglife Жыл бұрын
Sorry, I could only delete the entire video … ands associated comments as youtube editor doesn’t let me change the vocal/audio I track. I have uploaded a follow up video though looking into the cracking if you wanted a better, clearer look at the cracking issue.

If your dramatic theme music is as loud or louder than your voice which I'm trying to listen to, then I'm going to click off your video and down vote you. I didn't come to listen to some dramatic Marvel movie symphony, I came to listen to your opinion which I struggled to hear from through two speakers.

Fair enough, I don’t blame you for not watching if you cant hear the vocal audio. Thanks for letting me know. I am still just a hobbyist and wrapping my head around all of the aspects involved in video production and the normalising,audio ducking etc… of the audio tracks still has me scratching my head a little. I am aiming to improve aspects of my videos with each new one a little at a time as part of my upskilling journey. Don’t worry Audio is next on my list before I jump into visual effect nodes.
