40 psi seems a bit too high. thats probably why you were getting the spiderwebbing and too much paint shooting out. bring that down to about 20 and see if that helps

Relatively big nozzle and super thin paint you can safely go even lower. 12psi isn't unrealistic and will give a ton more control until you get your trigger control down.

Thanks for your video. You've definitely motivated me to unpack my 1st spray gun setup which I purchased about 45 days ago and was hesitating to use because as an afterthought I was thinking: "Wow I bought all of this hardware and paints and I didn't put too much thought into the cleanup process". It was an impulse purchase after watching many videos like yours. But you made it look simple and clarified a few things for me in the cleanup process. By the way, I think the miniature came out great even if it was your first time. I'll bet some people have been doing this a long time and have tried to get the results you have gotten on your first try.

I grabbed just one of those cheap ones with the integrated/handheld compressor to use for priming when the weather isn't good for rattle cans and it does a pretty decent job too. Does a really excellent job of putting down the Vallejo metallics I have. My Slaves to Darkness are basically a metallic base slapchop.

I use what I call my "airchop" method. Airbrush black primer all over, then grey ink from a 45 degree angle, then white ink from directly above. After that, airbrush contrast/SpeedPaint where you want it, then come at it with classic brush work. Turns out great, usually.

You need to use the twisty screw at the back of the airbrush to restrict how far back you can pull the trigger. This will allow you to greatly improve the paint control. Combine that with lowering your air pressure to 20-30psi and you'll find that you gain a lot more control with this brush.

Honestly, for a first time airbrushing and that with a real beginner-level low-budget kit and not a Harder & Steenbeck or something like that you normally see KZbinrs use, that's an amazing result! Good model choice, too, trolls have both the size and structure needed to really take advantage of an airbrush and its blending capabilities! I still think it would get expensive in the long run to put Speedpaints through the Airbrush, so I just ordered an Arcylic Ink Kit with 6 essential colors. Hope they'll work as intented! Have fun developing this new skill!

Nothing to be terrified about. Nothing you can do with an airbrush is going to "ruin" anything just like any other painting technique. Absolute worst case, you strip the paint and start over, but realistically 99% of the time you can just paint over what you have and give it another go.

Fantastic result there, very impressive! Few tips if you want them: 12 to 15 psi is enough for mini paints, thinned to normal milk consistency. Higher PSI for more viscous paints. Lower the PSI the closer you can get to the model, for details I'm about 1cm away. Higher the PSI for more viscous paint, the further you must be from the model. 0.3mm or below AB and you can pretty much get as close as you want to the mini, providing you're running at 12psi with that thin paint. Hold finger down on trigger to push air through the brush, pull back to push paint through, end by pushing forwards until no paint is coming through, then you can let go of the trigger to stop the air flow. You don't need to point it at the mini of course, but make sure to keep the air flow going last. This will mitigate tip drying. Never ever backflush, you risk damaging the seals on the airbrush, mix before putting into the hopper.

Things that I've heard: 1) thin the paints for layering 2) always clean the tool 3) try spraying through thing to get different effects 4) ventilation always other than that great for a first time, I'm still stuck in the dollar store brush age, but it is still great to see other hobbyists trying things out.

Well done mate you’ll eventually love the air brush more than slap chop as you can paint whole units in quick succession. Great first run. What will make your model look better is keeping where the shadows are on the model dark. Don’t zenithal highlight those areas and once you place your army paint over the top it will look the treat 🤜👍

Great video. Everyone starts somewhere, and its good to show newer people that not knowing what you're doing straight away is perfectly normal. BTW, I think the troll ended up look pretty good for a first go. Much better than my first time using an airbrush. I normally spray at 18-20 psi range. that being said.. I have tried airbrushing contrast/speed paints.. and they spray almost like normal paints. They don't behave like brushed on contrast paints. I think I'm going to try them at 40 psi like you did. As I noticed that you were getting that slight pooling effect that contrast/speedpaints normally give when brushed on.

Here are some tips that I picked up over the years of using an air brush, hope it helps: to get used to how much pressure you want to put on the trigger you should try making dots of paint on a regular paper first. Hold the airbrush like you would a pen or pencil. Generally for paint around 25 to 30 psi is enough. Remember to thin your paints, even if its going through the airbrush okay. use different nozzles for different jobs (0.5 is for priming, varnishing, and base coating. 0.2 or less is for detail work. 0.3 is in between) hold the model about 6inches away from the air brush, too close and you increase the chance of "spider webbing" and uneven coverage. If you cover the end of the airbrush with your finger and press and pull back the trigger you will backflow - useful for cleaning the deeper more hidden layer of paint in the airbrush. Ventilation - wear a mask or use a filter, but still wear a mask n95 at least. Keep the mask on while you air out your work space. when you are dropping paint into the air brush just quickly wipe the top of the paint bottle off, a tiny bit of dried paint can clog the airbrush very easily.
@antongunther3977
@antongunther3977 Жыл бұрын
also the most important tip: Keep the air flowing constantly. It should go like this air - paint - air. This way you never have to worry about excess paint sitting on the tip of the airbrush and causing speckling on the model.

The thing with airbrushing is that it removes the issues with paint brushes where you have to do multiple careful thin coats to get a nice opaque smooth finish. In that regard, I find starting from a dark bases and then spraying on your lighter colours to be the best! Speed paints and Contrast im sure are good for spraying aswell, but I think they are mostly used for tinting rather then a nice smooth coat and finish. I'd definitely reccommend trying those vallejo air paints you got sent and you'll be surprised how lovely and smooth all your base colours go on over a black prime undercoat! (And as others have said, 20 - 25 PSI is much better for this kind of work)

Airbrush "gun" fast tutorial. Press: Air comes out Pull back: paint comes out ALWAYS PRESS BEFORE PULLING. I you pull first, the paint will go everywhere you dont want to. The pressure depends on the velocity you want, less pressure = more "sparkles". Its good to make spalsh effects (mud, blood, slime). For speed paints i guess a little more air pressure is better. Also, not pulling all the way back but pressing it all down could help. If more air is coming out for less paint i guess it will create less drops on the model.
@carl79black
@carl79black Жыл бұрын
So it’s hard to tell in the video, but it looks like you have paint coming out as soon as you push the trigger down. If there’s paint coming out without pulling it back there’s something wrong. Maybe the needles not set correctly? Or the needle is smaller than the tip if if it came with multiple options? You just don’t want paint to come out until you’ve started to pull the trigger back a bit. Also, slow down a bit how fast your pulling the trigger back. It’s 2 motions. Down first, then start sliding it back. If you do one motion you’ll let out excess paint prior to the airflow being there and you’ll get a big splatter once the airflow starts. You’ll get the hang of it.
