Sequence Breaks are a staple of Speedruns. They're often what allow runners to make HUGE Jumps in time.. Like perhaps, a 4 hour time save? In this video, we'll be taking a look at one of, if not THE most broken glitch in all of LEGO gaming, one that only takes roughly 2 button presses to perform. I hope you enjoy!

From an onlooker's perspective, I don't think it's a dev door. It looks like the bookshelf is the intended door for the bonus level and they just never unload the loading zone.

It definitely was at one point. In the original Batman show (which that level is referencing) the entrance to the Bat-Cave was a hidden Fireman’s Pole behind a Bookshelf.

This reminds me of how Super Mario Sunshine speedrunners skip collecting the first six shines in Gelato Beach by collecting the eighth shine, which unlocks all previous shines, and then collecting the seventh shine, which is the only one needed for progression. Absolutely incredible that otherwise unobservable mechanics get used in speedruns!

The bookcase IS the loading zone for the actual level. It's just usually locked, and they didn't expect anyone to slip in behind it without opening it from the front. It's not a dev door or anything.

Yeah, I was gonna say this. It's normal for loading zones to be active regardless of whether or not the door in front of them is open.

Specifically, in this game, the reason there aren't loading zones active for all the other levels at the same time is that there are different states of the hub depending on where you are in the story. I don't remember exactly how all the levels are entered, but sometimes a vehicle will appear which you can jump into to start the next level, or a load which normally goes to another part of the hub will have a flag activated to send you into a level instead. It becomes impossible to enter those levels using those entrances later on, you have to use the level select. Plus, there are a bunch of story levels that can only be played from the level select in the first place. The only way the player is expected to enter any of those levels is either at the appropriate time during the story, or later from the level select. The bonus level, on the other hand, can be entered through the bookcase again and again and again, because the player is only able to open the bookcase after the story is already over, so it didn't make sense to deactivate the loading zone for any reason.

I don't think it's a dev door, I think it was intended for the bookcase to open like in the TV show, and for you to go in there to start the level.

The confusion is understandable, though the is the only actual load zone that you can trigger prematurely in lego batman 3 (other lego games as well as other games in general have load zones you can trigger ealry though)

@@BaconNuke I'm pretty sure they understood why the time was cut down so much, I think they were pointing out the humor in the fact that the amount of minutes it now takes to beat the game is equal to the amount of hours it used to take to beat the game. Cool passive-aggressive comment though.

Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated had a glitch discovered like day one where you could skip to the final boss with all the moves needed to beat the game and roll credits, WR sits at a minute eleven seconds

Actually, you don't have to save Adam West in all the other levels first. The only requirement is the other levels to be completed. Sauce: Did a 100% playthrough bout a month ago, due to one of the saves requiring Poison Ivy and only her for some reason (who I had no idea how to unlock at the time) saving West in one the levels was one of the last things I did. Played the bonus level way before that

A much smaller skip can be found in Harry Potter Years 1-4. Tom Riddlde's Diary can be skipped entirely by simply exiting the level, at the expense of locking yourself out of 100% completion because the level cannot be entered again afterwards.

@@Manavine Yeah. As a kid, me and my brothers discovered it on accident when one of us got softlocked in the area behind a wardrobe. It was on the Wii version, though I'm not sure if the bug is exclusive to it.

@@braydengraves4655 Its possible for a gold brick in the bell tower to not spawn when the puzzle is done, (this happened to me) and entering the dragon dungeon too early I'm hogwarts can lead to you getting completely stuck and any time you return to hogwarts you will still be trapped in the room. Another minor one is that its no longer possible to go to hogwarts after getting all 200 gold bricks, as the "continue story" option will always send you to nocturne ally to get you to do the Voldemort mission.

I personally think Lego Marvel Super Heroes beats Lego Batman 2 by a narrow margin. It got a lot of things right that Batman 2 got slightly wrong, and did a lot of other things a little bit better, mostly in the hub.

Never played Lego Batman 3 but.. bookshelf seems intentional since in the 60s show that is how they got to the Batcave, behind the bookshelf So confirmed some speedrunners do not play a game casually before running it since in a casual playthrough and/or 100% run I would assume you would get to the bonus level in the intended way and know that it is just an oversight to have the entrance available at all times

Except this isn't a bug or a dev door you are just loading an active load zone before you usually would (a lot of load zones just aren't unloaded ever for one reason or another) something speedrunners do ALL the time in even the most bug free of games frankly I'm surprised no speedrunner found this earlier (then again you'd have to actually do the level at least once in a casual run to realize behind the bookshelf is the trigger for the bonus level)

I imagine the reason for that clip working doesn't have anything to do with dev shortcuts rather just that its load zone just doesn't get created when the room is unlocked and instead just always exists

6:50 well from what I've seen of glitches and various videos breaking games as well as a very small bit of knowledge about making games. For many games if something will ever exist in a level it's generally stored out of bounds either just outside where it will be/was or at the level origin point 0x,0y,0z and then moved/teleported into place when it is needed in the level. This is done for various reasons but I'm pretty sure one is to make sure it actually loads in since it's always loaded in when the level loads it should never not appear when it should, I believe another reason is that it's easier to call on something that is already loaded rather than having to make a call to load it in and put it somewhere you just gotta put where it needs to be when the time comes and if it's gotta move just shift it away rather than tell the game to completely unload it. someone else can correct me if I'm wrong about anything there, I'm not a dev but I find all that stuff interesting.

@@musk_operacji The freeze clipping trick is good in 5-7 for that. I have no idea if it's in 1-4, but a video on 5-7 would be cool. I've tried to sequence break in it and always met a dead end softlock though, so they'd have to be very careful if their goal is the end of the game.

There’s an amazing clip in one of the Spyro games that lets you skip straight to the final boss by ground pounding into the floor next to the loading zone. WR is just about a minute iirc

Must have been Year of the Dragon (which I haven't played yet) because both 1 and 2 had completely different hub worlds for the boss with several loading zones in between, and the ground pound mechanic wasn't even unlocked until the final world of 2, almost at the end of the game. 1 didn't have it at all.

In most games with a huge skip it's usually another category being made solely for playing without that skip. For example Any% NO AJS for GTA SA (AJS standing for Arbitrary Jump in Script)
