Whats a good cam shaft for regular street use thats above stock somewhere in the mild setting without having to change other components like pistons and lifters ect. I got a chevy 350 in a 77 monte carlo. Just want something that can give my engine a bit more power out of it.

This is what you get from every so called Cam expert. It is because they do not know how to match a cam to your engine.

I wish the shop who built my engine would have watched this video. I have a stock 1969 351 Windsor, I did not know. This is why I had a shop that build racing engines do it. He put a dual plane edelbrock on it, okay. he built the engine, stock bore, stock rods, and stuff. He put a crane cam good brand bad choice. 270 - 512 intake lift, 517 exhaust. I finally gave up, it would never run right this being only one of a few problems. So me I pulled the cam, put what I thought was a 270 duration 484 lift both sides, Ran great until lifters pumped all the way up. It end up being a 272 duration with 484 lift both sides. So now I am trying a 250-255 duration with a 434 intake and 464 exhaust. From what I read it is for small exhaust port heads such as mine. I will also reinstall my factory 4bll intake. Jegs agreed to take my second cam back being I order so much from them, they are awesome. the first cam is for sale, along withe the dual plane intake. I have not finished putting my motor back together yet, hopefully this weekend.

I can't imagine a 270 cam being a problem as much as lifter pump up being...wrong springs or seat pressure/installed height just wasn't serving the lifters properly. No crime in re-using old springs, but they all have to be tested when going that route, and meet the new cam recommendation for rate and seat pressure. Anyway, those heads being a little under valved most cases, a little extra lift is not always a bad thing but has limits. Test your springs on any cam swap - new or used doesn't matter. Speaking to small valve/port heads, the old tried and true has been lower lift [holding port velocity down in the 300.325fps range] and adding some duration to compensate as compression ratio allows. If flow tested, I kind of doubt your [stock] heads can use much past 0.450" ish lift. The 0.512" lift was probably as much as that combo could hope to use. I kind of like Isky's [square pattern] 262 cam. It's 0.445" lift. The 256/262 cam too - all depends on what size valves are in the heads: common variants seem to be 1.78" or 1.85", but the creative have stuffed 2.10" intake valves into aftermarket designs. Here's a fun read... www.myrideisme.com/Blog/p38-ford-engine-head/

Wish pat would get back to me for the $900 cam kit I ordered before Christmas, speedway hasn't sent the rest of the parts in the cam kit, so I called pat he said it was comps fault so I then called comp they said speedway never placed an order from them for the parts they didnt send and comp has the parts in stock so what's the deal ?

Hi there really liked watching your video. I have an ls1 with mildly ported heads. I would like to use this car for drag racing and occasional street use. My car weighs around 1800kg with me in it 3.9 diff gears and a 3500 rpm stall backed by a 4l60e. I am currently using a 227 - 234 @50 cam LSA is 112 . Lift is 600 intake and 600 exhaust. Intake manifold is standard. The car is reasonably quick on the street and has instant torque but has only managed a 12.4 on on the track. What cam would you recommend to get the times down given what I have to work with.
@speedwaymotors6 жыл бұрын
With the stall converter you have you can go about as radical on the cam as available as long as your heads have sufficient springs and rockers. We suggest contacting the cam supplier of choice and relaying the same info as well as the additional specifications on your heads for the best suggestions. Also header size and fuel supply such as injection or carburetion.
