Yo NL, you win that final fight if you don't play all those crypt builders. I think you tunnel-vision on holdover without thinking of the potential drawbacks. You have to keep in mind that by playing all 3 of them, you are only allowing yourself to draw 2 new cards. Thus, instead of having 5 chances of getting the win with helical crystals, you only have 2.

More interestingly, in the very last turn he coulda calculated that he didn't have enough damage - in which case the only real play is trying to draw the Helical Crystal with enough energy to play it. He needs to play 3 cards and has 5 mana but needs 2 at the end. So on the Pyre floor: 0 Crypt Builder + 2 Crypt Builder + 1 Vengeful Shard = 2 energy left. We see he draws Helical Crystal after so woulda gotten 45*2*23 + 30 (relic gives 30 damage for consume spells) = 2100 damage [am not a 100% sure on the math though]. But ain't nobody busting the calculator out when they're trying to entertain, especially when there's a chance of getting the math wrong and missing the 'obvious' play.

I don't want my hand being overrun by base regens. @@Bwhited2399 IMO it's really better to give him a mid-range card. You're not giving him a card you want to remove from your deck as you're getting it back. So if you have maybe 3 floors worth of tanks and are doing fine you can easily give him 1 of the tanks or if you have enough spell damage options, give him one etc. Most of the times you'll get even better version of a card you already want in your deck. If you struggle you can get it pretty quick back too so it shouldn't be a huge deal. Just don't give him that 1 card that makes or breaks your run :D

The boss had 160 HP when it killed his pyre, so the 3 turns of daze would only deal 120 damage, unfortunately just shy. If he hadn't played all of his holdover crypt builders he actually would've drawn the helical crystalis to kill the boss. Such a shame, a really close run!

No this line could work on the last turn. If he does the math and realizes that his only way to win is helical crystal, he could play claw, vengeful shard, and his 0 cost crypt builder on the floor that the boss isn’t on to trigger the relic draw and dig for helical crystal well still maintaining the spell weakness on the boss.

Great episode NL but it hurts to see you lose this one, and it really highlights how holdover is not always good. There was a line to victory on the final boss if you did NOT play the two 2 cost crypt builders at 1:01:35. If you had not played those two crypt builders, then they wouldn't come back to the top of your deck and you would have drawn into the helical crystal for the win. I know this may sound like hindsight is 20-20, but it really isn't because NL even mentioned the only way to win was to draw into helical crystal, therefore you should be trying to MAXIMIZE the number of cards you draw from the deck instead of putting these crypt builders back on top.

Apart from synergizing with the other event that gives you blight (Dante's) and the one that makes calcified embers into 0 cost 2 energy 1 draw, the first choice in the blight event (get 3 calcified embers) basically gives you 3 100 damage purge cards, plus it counters the consume seraph (the one you had this run) when it puts blights into your deck. holdover makes you draw the card next turn... the crystals were the very next card you would draw... if you didn't play atleast 1 holdover on that previous turn... you would have won!... playing the holdover cards made the chance of drawing crystals lower! btw all the RNG is precalculated, you can confirm this by abusing the game mechanic of quiting to main menu to restart a battle, the draws, random discards, and enemy spawns will be the same.

Spell weakness builds are hard to use to kill bosses for the exact problem you were met with. Sorry in advance for the backseating - if you already knew this, I'm sorry for wasting your time. 41:45 draft: the spreading spores are a great counter to the final boss. Because they create copies in your discard pile, the consume is desirable. The downside is of course carrying a somewhat dead card until that point. If you can give it reduced cost and doublestack it goes completely out of control, too. No direct synergy with the spell damage is a downside.

I would have placed the unit that gives you +7 spell dmg on the top floor so when units with max spell weakness come they eat +7 times X where X is the number of spell weakness stacks. Also, purging the train stewards seemed quite important in this run, NL ended placing train stewards instead of the siren or another more useful unit. And, by the way, buffing a unit with a permanent +1/+1 instead of Rage 1 was so much better in NLs build imo. Finally, using the buff on the sweeper might be great but not really. I believe it would have been better to keep buffing the Siren to get the Rage synergy. I would also have had the buff returning each turn to my hand instead of the spell NL picked, in order to buff that unit out of space. He had many dmg spells duplicated, so to have one of them chained at his hand didn't make much of a difference. But I believe that having a 0 cost buff every turn that synergizes makes a huge impact.

Also while there was the last turn mistake in the order of using cards. One case when I found "permafrost" to be incredibly good is offering spells - you hold onto them until you draw the cards that allow you to discard

Hanging onto 3 Crypt Builders and preventing him getting Crystals earlier wasn't great but even on that last turn if he'd played the 0 cost Builder, the 2 cost Builder and then the 1 cost Vengeful Shard he'd have drawn 3, gotten Helical Crystals and had the 2 energy needed to play it.

The frost effigy upgraded with holdover on a frostbite build is so broken. You can multiply frostbite so fast.

At 12:02, you could have played your three spells before Energy Siphon. It would have got you the 10 damage you needed to avoid letting the boss up to the Pyre.

I just had one of my strongest runs ever, as Melting Remnant/Umbra - I had a gorger that got damage shield and a card with holdover that dealt X+3 times 30 damage to the front enemy, as well as a card that gives energy based on how many friendly units have died that combat. Needless to say, it was an awesome synergy with a ton of morsels and waxers dying, i think I ended up dealing about 1500 damage and instakilling seraph

I don't know. For the support units I would agree, frostbite might be more beneficial, but for bosses it makes sense to go full spell weakness if that's the build you're going with. That being said, I've never won a spell weakness Stygian deck, only Frostbite, so I definitely prefer frostbite.
@Galloglaoch
@Galloglaoch 4 жыл бұрын
@@Bwhited2399 Spell Weakness Stygian is definately strong but you need the Cylophite adding spell weakness along the champion. The champion alone adding enough spellweakness is problematic. Ideally you'd like to have 2 floors of spell weakness so you can deal your damage on floor 2 and still have floor 3 with the boss having spell weakness on him again to draw the finisher. Not to mention you'd want to multistrike your cylophite, maybe have 2 of them(one for floor 1 and one for the mention idea for floor 2). You can see he got the boss to 160 health with just that. Now imagine if he had what equates to another champion worth of spell weakness. Yeah...

Im changing my comment because it was very negative and non-constructive, and i love your content so I felt bad. Doing the calculations of the last fight with Seraph, if you had two Ice and Pyre (the one you could pick up and then duplicate it instead of another crypt builder) your damage when seraph was at max spell weakness would have been 2250, enough for the win! Still a great run, loving the series and definitely inspired me to get the game
