As an Anatomy professor, I couldn’t disagree with you more.

I say a lot of things in this video so it's hard to know what you're referring to specifically. Everything I say is based on my personal experience working one on one with literally hundreds of anatomy students, so if you don't agree I'd imagine it's that you either misinterpreted my meaning or that I didn't explain it thoroughly enough for you to understand the caveats and limitations.

@@AnatomyHero I certainly appreciate your response! I also have worked with thousands of students, teaching Anatomy at the undergraduate level. Spelling/writing the anatomical structure does not demonstrate understanding of the structure. That’s where you lost me. But, if/since Anatomy instructors are still making spelling a high priority, I suppose walking through the steps on how to spell is a good idea. But that definitely doesn’t demonstrate understanding of the structure/organ/tissue, etc. It just shows that someone can see it and spell it. Not really very impressive nowadays. In my opinion, there are far more interesting things about anatomical structures than how they are spelled.

@@Ms.AnatomyGeek oh definitely! It's not the most important thing, but it is something my school docks points for in the lab portion of the class (and I assume many other schools too). I think the rationale is that being able to properly spell medical terminology is required of people who will be writing clinical notes (and not all systems have an integrated spell checker). Personally, I also think that improving spelling results in gains for language processing overall. A lot of students come in with deficits in basic phonics (as evidenced by their inability to pronounce novel words that are pronounced the way they are written) which if uncorrected creates difficulties in their ability to retain words period. (How can you retain a word you can't read? To their brain it's just a long jumble of letters) This in turn makes it difficult for them to read through their textbooks, and on and on and on.

@@Ms.AnatomyGeek The title of the video is clearly called “Spelling Tips”. Professors including mine WILL mark off points for misspelling a structure. Nowhere in this video was it alleged that this is how you should study to thoroughly understand anatomy concepts. The video is about “Spelling Tips” as is obvious and transparently stated. You’re leaving criticism on a relevant and helpful video unnecessarily. Maybe it makes you feel good and puffed up to criticize and brag that you’re an anatomy professor, but your comment ironically was ignorant.
