I remember quite a few of the games I used to play back on the C64. Heck, my group of friends used to lug our C64's around so we could spendweekends at one persons house, all playing Raid Over Bungeling Bay or The Last Ninja or whatever new game we could find... Heck, we even had an old Vic20 set up to run our dice rolls for role playing.

Oh EXCELLENT choice Cheeky!! The first platformer I really fell in love with, this was hard but not frustratingly so, and you always wanted to see what was coming up in the next shaft as there was usually something you've not seen before like railway cars or water gysers waiting to launch you to the next air tank or treasure. I loved the theme song too and it was included on one of the 4 mix-tapes I made of great C64 themes taping with Dad's pro-Walkman and stereo mic off the teevee (only 1 of which lived to see the 2000s and is now lost as well) but everything about this game was magic for it's time. Even it's primitive main character and ghost sprites were offset by the highly detailed landscape and effects. I consider this one of the greats irregardless of platform. Also, there's a couple longplay videos out there, watch them to see some very skilled playing!

Definitely a magical game, I managed to get quite far with trainers switched on! It would take a lot of skill and patience to get through this game back in the day I can imagine... but we all had much more patience back then 😇🕹️👌

Such a great game but equally just as difficult to navigate through the caverns. I enjoy playing this one with cheats on because I get to see more of the game without worrying about the dreaded 'game over' screen haha 😇🕹️👌

@@CheekyCommodoreGamer I later picked up an Action Replay cartridge, but I don't think I ever used it on this game to cheat. I'll have to see if I can play this game with cheats sometime just to get further through... as much as I loved this game, I couldn't get very far.

Yeah i remember this i think i still have it hear too . Bought it from acmi games shop in the early 90s with a copy of dizzy . my daughter was playing rambo 3 on the c64 last week too using my original controller that still works . I do miss the old days no game reviews just word of mouth and the odd bootleg games i would find at the car boot sales god i had some mad games on the c64 wish i had kept them all i really do used to save up £5 and hunt them out at the boot sales . I had a really good ghost buster one but not like anything ive ever seen since . I will never forget just before xmas dad took me down to the local game shop and he said were buying a c64 my jaw nearly hit the floor i swear when we left that shop i was so excited and happy little did i know it was the very start of a life long passion for gameing even me and my children play retro games together now and again its played such a big part in my life and got me through some very dark times. I absolutely love your channel its fantastic please keep up the good work i dont comment on all but i like and watch every video you upload thank you Cheeky Commodore Gamer thank you very much indeed 👍❤🎮

SPELUNKER looks so retrospectively brilliant, even the 8-bit Atari version of this game deserves a big retrospective like 👍🕹️. It also reminds me of PHARAOH'S CURSE. And it also makes me want to look for the Commodore 64 version of this game 😺👍🕹️.

Thought this was gonna be for the new Spelunky C64 port, which looks amazing. This looks pretty good too though. Now I "retired" from spelunking when I hit my 40's but from my late teens till my late 30's I was a member of my local grotto and the NSS. Spelunker isn't outdated, we still referred to ourselves as such.

I have a vague recollection of borrowing this from a friend briefly, and enjoying it. Oddly, something was wrong with the title screen, even though I seem to recall that he had an original disc rather than a pirated copy. Didn't get far, because I had to return it, and I was kind of young at the time. Never picked up a copy when I got older, as I guess it wasn't readily available anymore. This is one I'll definitely have to add to my list for when I fire up the emulator again.
