If you have Vlad's amulet then the boss is a lot easier. I was amazed you skipped it in the first level of hell! You get it at the top of Vlad's tower by blowing up a wall - the Udjat Eye shows you which. It makes you immune to lava and fire men, so you can just stand directly underneath Yama (on top of his throne) and chuck stuff at him. While you're stood there he won't drop skulls from the ceiling and you only occasionally need to whip an imp he'll spit out. You also missed the Necronomicon's power - the face animates when you're above the entrance to hell in Olmec's lair, making it easy to find the door (the faster it animates, the closer the door is). Then you can just bomb all the way down and have Olmec drop in without him ever summoning a single monster.

Very nice guide! I made it to hell today for the first time. Had no bombs left though, so it was kinda hopeless. Died at the end of the second level. I bet if you could smuggle a shotgun to hell, it would be so much easier. But that would mean you have to get your hands on one after you use the ankh, I guess. Should probably focus on buying bombs instead. Thanks one more time for your guides! Very well done with commentary and everything!

NL is a funny guy who does commentary while playing the game, which makes it hard to concentrate sometimes. He's not the best, but he can definitely finish this game and provide us with so much entertainment until that happens.

Trust me, Vlad's wings along with spring shoes are a lot better during this battle, the slow fall and the 2nd high jump help out a lot more when navigating than the boost you get from the jetpack.

I finally finished this after about a million attempts, but I must say, (assuming I have a jetpack) I use the spike boots on the two minions in Yama's lair to save on bombs (because I'm massively paranoid). You also don't NEED to kill Anubis2 in the City of Gold. I sometimes book it to Olmec's Lair and again, use the boots to jump on him to death. You've got lots of space so it's not hard (with that jetpack).

I still feel like the jetpack gives you more versatility. That set up is a great option and is more likely than finding a jetpack.

I also believe that you may be moving too fast simply out of reflex to constantly hold the sprint button,which I often do. Take it slow.

And yeah, the book of the dead tells you where the door to hell is. It starts wiggling faster the closer above the door you are.

There's an easy way to know where the door to hell is. Just look at the book of the dead : It'll be moving faster when you are closer to the door (just like the eye and the door to the black market). Once you've noticed where that spot is, you just bring olmec there/bomb through the ground and there you are ;)

I use to think getting to hell was hard, but all you need is the right run, if you manage to collect 20 or more bombs before getting up to olmec your pretty set, because when you get to yama his body guards have bomb boxes, the one thing that annoys me on my hell runs is dying on the wrong level with the ank, or if im playing coop and trying to get to hell, the glitch may occur when you revive your team mate from the coffin where it kills them and you respawn back in the coffin losing all your items.

That could work, I just find it difficult to deal with the shopkeeper's erratic behavior for the remainder of the game.

It needs more walking and running controls, sometimes you wanted walk, especially when you close to platform edges, but Spelunky walks too fast. Maybe i'm the only one in here who feels like this, but no one in here can't say that they haven't die several hundred times by accidentally going off platforms or taken damage by running or walking into an enemy that all you were trying to was just to get close and kill.

If you can use one bomb for 1500 or more gold then its worth it early due to the fact that bombs cost less than that early. Thats helps me get more money. Also big spiders drop a good amount of gold and are easy to kill with one bomb.

Didn't know that about the mouth of the Book of the Dead. Bombing a hole for Olmec is just safer. Do shopkeepers follow you into hell?

I cant stress patience enough. 2 1/2 minutes before a ghost spawns is an eternity for each level. Carefully weigh each obstacle you encounter. If it looks sketchy ask yourself "is this worth my life?" Most of the time the answer is no. For Anubis II. If you are having trouble with him and have paste with climbing gloves you could just exit the level and deal with him at Olmec. Once you start the Olmec battle jump up on the wall and hit him with two quick bombs. Olmec won't move.

Some people believe that bringing a shotgun is the way to go, but I believe your likelihood to succeed drastically decreases by angering the shopkeepers. Bring as many bombs as possible!

Well we will agree and disagree with this one. I think the games control is way too loose. Very often all you wanted do is get to the edge of the platform and spenlunky end up jumping off the platform to his death. Even when he's just walking he's too fast doing just that and it will cause you to hit something or jump off the platform. Maybe a mario 64 type of control mechanics would have been a good thing, for a game that constantly have you running and jumping.
