Errol "The Truth" Spence Jr. faced off against Leonard "The Lion" Bundu in a scheduled 12-round IBF Welterweight World Title Eliminator on August 21, 2016, at the Ford Amphitheater at the Coney Island Boardwalk. This fight was broadcast live on NBC as part of the Premier Boxing Champions series.
Spence Jr. took his time warming up to Bundu, focusing on throwing calculated body shots and jabs. Bundu, on the other hand, tried to apply pressure and claim dominance early in the fight.
This trend continued for the first few rounds. While Bundu remained aggressive, unofficial score cards had Spence Jr. ahead in the fight as his shots were more precise.
By the forth round, Spence Jr. became more aggressive, found his rhythm and nearly dropped Bundu at one point.
Then, near the middle of round 6, Spence Jr. dropped Bundu for the first time in the fight. Bundu recovered but was clearly hurt. Spence took advantage of this and put an end to the fight around 30 seconds later with a devastating right hook.
Errol Spence Jr. won the fight by KO at 2:06 of round 6 and remains undefeated at 21-0, 17KOs. He is now the mandatory challenger for Kell Brook who is the reigning IBF welterweight champion.
