Sixx was the coolest rock bassist of his era. He defines the term 'rock star'... But his bass parts were always so boring and simple and amatuerish. Of course I appreciate that he didn't try to flex and get in the way of the song with pointless flashy technical crap. He's smart enough to know it's all about a great song everyone can hum, or tap their foot, or nod to. Nobody cares about technically great players. It's the song that matters. That said... Sixx wrote the most boring bass parts for some of the coolest rock songs. It's interesting how that worked out. His parts usually stunk of boring mediocrity, but the songs were amazing. And it's so odd because he wrote all the songs. I would have liked to hear Duff from GNR playing his idea for the bass parts of Crue songs. Because I always thought Duff was a great bassist that added very interesting bass lines. Sweet Child/Mine... I never liked that song. But his bass parts were very rich. Duff never had boring stick to the beat parts. He was clever with parts you couldn't predict a mile away. But they weren't pointlessly flashy nor did he ever get in the way of his other bandmates. Duff was a great bassist. But Nikki was the best hard rock song writer of his era. His style and writing made Motley massive. And he probably made his parts easy so he could be all fucked up on dope on stage and still easily play. Well, it's possible. Sorry for the rant. I just love talking basses and Crue.

Well nikki did some cool leak and the fact that he's playing root notes like 80% of the time is kinda normal because nikki fell in love with bass because of punk bass. He still wrote some cool bass like the solo of "stick to your guns" "to night" the break with tommy on "live wire", he make the melody in "too young to fall in love" and "red hot" or also both intro of "primal scream" and "rock n roll junkie". I think the reason why nikki as the reputation of the biggest hack of the music is because... Well let's be honest he as a big ego 😂. I like to take as an exemple AC/DC to show my point. Motley Crüe is a AC/DC band like: strong rythmic part who old the tempo and who's simple (more complicated with Motley Crüe but still, yoi get the idea) to let some space for lead part to do the fancy stuff. If you look at bass part in AC/DC well it's what i call a real rock bass line. Cliff Williams is a super great bassist and he knows what to do. But why he doesn't have the sale reputation as nikki? Because he's more shy! Well nikki is not maybe a jaco pastorius but he deserves more love and no more accusation about the music capabilities. I love bass talk and Crüe talk to :)
