Original GQ Sports Video (How Georges St-Pierre Spent His First $1M in the UFC | My First Million | GQ Sports): • How Georges St-Pierre ...
Why Your Favorite UFC Fighters Go Broke: • Why Your Favorite UFC ...
GSP is a legendary UFC fighter. Some consider him the best of all time. In this video, I’ll react to the always excellent GQ sports video of GSP breaking down how he spent his first one million dollars and a blog post where he shares how much money he made for a fight at his peak. We’ll also take a look at the latest UFC event to see how much the fighters are really making.

@Henzo88 no... GSP was even a better trash talker than the king of the mean streets of West Linn, Oregon. The man, the myth, the legend, the American Gangster. Chael, P for perfection, Sonnen.

In the way a french speaker translates himself to english, many of these trash talks are not quite the same. No doubt he meant what he said, but in a way it is more quaint than it would be if he knew they would understand him in french. It would be more insulting in his proper tongue.

I'm an amateur mma fighter in the US and I have to do it for free. I actually lose money because I have to pay for all my testing for the athletic commission plus travel expenses. Fighting is not very lucrative but I love the sport and there is so much to learn. I have a long way to go but at least I'll have fun, there's no other feeling like winning after a 6 week fight camp and years of training before that.

Seemed like a perfectly good way to spend his first million and he is certainly better off than those who pissed it all away. But it also separates the actual bonafide hustle-every-day professional fighter vs the heavy queens who float to the top and live on the excess at 10X his money and STILL they piss it away. This Quebecois bro wins for being entirely pragmatic about it all.

There is a purse for each fight, but it's got to be less than $1000. It's fantastic. I've seen roommates box over debt, and throuples box over relationships.

9:00. Your comment there reminds me of a story Tony Twist gives from when he was considered the heavyweight champ in the NHL. The Blues would go to bars when they were on the road and people would notice them and inevitably some idiot would always want to pick a fight with Twist. And Twist would tell these guys to go put $10,000 on the table, and then he’d go ahead and beat him up in front of all his friends. But he wouldn’t fight them for free; he was a professional fighter after all.

10:43 - Nope. Money being made through real estate only happens when you sell your property. Your house goes up in value from $100K to $200K, you have an unrealized gain of $100K - but you can't buy anything off unrealized gains. All debt (even mortgage) is bad, cause it's guaranteed interest you're paying someone else - why pay the bank 3-5% mortgage interest when you don't have to.

The difference between UFC pay and, say, NBA pay is that the UFC doesn’t really have to compete for the best athletes. NBA teams have to compete with each other for the best players, so they have to overpay a lot of times. That’s why guys make $20 mil+ routinely. There aren’t many fighters that the UFC would really hurt to lose. McGregor, Khabib, Masvidal are few in today’s day. GSP and Anderson Silva were a couple from years back.
@chuchorodriguez1893

Na , the nba and other originations have collective bargaining agreements and player associations that protect athletes. So they get 50% of ALL revenue generated while the UFC fighters only get between 14-18% of the total revenue ……… boxers have the Ali act which protects them from promoters
